Is there any real benefit to MLB's proposed "pace of play" rules?
So Rob Manfred's been proposing new rules to attract a newer fan base to baseball. While the time of games did go down after 2015, it went back up in 2016. Some of these rules made some players and baseball traditionalists mad.
It's long thought that the games are too long to interest a casual fan, so Manfred made it his mission to shorten games by trying to implement rules like one-pitch intentional walks or shortening prep time between commercial breaks. But are these changes really worth changing aspects of the game to satisfy a casual fan?
Without intentional walks baseball fans wouldn't have these moments:
The casual fan hardly even watches all 9 innings. Usually they switch to other things on t.v or watch another sporting event that has more action. I doubt they care about the pace of play because they tune in here and there.
So what do you all think about MLB changing the rules to attract casual fans? Are their efforts futile? Or do you see some good coming from it?
Don't like the intentional walk rule. IMO it doesn't happen enough to warrant this, they MAYBE happen once a game, and thats a stretch.
Also, I can't stand the new extra innings rules they are apparently testing in the minors this year. Start a runner on second base?
