Jersey City/Hoboken

Have seen older threads about Jersey City and how quiet it is, but their older threads. Was wondering if anyone has any up-to-date views about Jersey City or Hoboken interested in hearing as well. I may be interested in living in either after graduation and covid. I like both over NYC just want to know what all I can expect.

Jersey City = more amenities, upscale living space, modern layouts, better bang for your buck. Decent restaurants/bars, can get a bit repetitive if you stay too long.

Hoboken = Good restaurants/bars, lots of options. Quality women, decent night life, dated living space, luxury space is expensive, safer, smaller/walk-able town.

I'm not sure about your commute so I can't really recommend what parts of Jersey/Hobo you should dwell in.

Anything dnwtwn, waterfront, newport, paulus hook, harborside, exchange place Jersey City you're fine. Deeper inland gets tricky. Jersey City is pretty big. If you're in Midtown and decided on Jersey I'd recommend staying close to the hudson river. Further inland adds unnecessary time. Hoboken, try to stay close to the path for your commute but Hobo is literally only 13 blocks so you can probably get an E-bike depending on your taste. But honestly you should really consider living in NYC if you work in midtown. Your commute after work will be a hassle as trains are harder to come by post 11pm. If you worked in FiDi, JC would be perfect. Literally one stop from WTC and you're home (Exchange Place)

I second what @BBCinIB said.

If I were to add 1 more thing, Newport and Hudson Exchange of JC are mostly foreign expats (lots of Indian and Chinese people). Of course that means there are several solid Indian and Chinese restaurants. Most yuppie type Americans live closer to the Colgate Clock around Paulus Hook. Couple good French and Italian restaurants over there. But overall, I'd say that JC crowd is mostly young couple with kids or expatriots working in NYC breifly.

Hoboken has a much more vibrant and young culture.

Further north in Weehawken and Edgewater, you just get typical suburban nice condos and apartments

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
