List of most influential/famous Wall St figures for my series
Hey, I'm going to be doing a series about most famous Wall St personas - not just net worth but also personal story/influence-wise. I'd like to keep it somewhere around 20 people.
I'd like to know your opinion or suggestions, here's my list so far:
- Henry Kravis
- Steve Cohen
- Carl Icahn
- Jamie Dimon
- Ray Dalio
- Jim Simons
- Stephen Schwarzman
- Paul Singer
- George Soros
- Ken Griffin
- Mike Milken
- Michael Steinhardt
- Alan Schwartz or Jimmy Cayne
- Paul Tudor Jones
- David Shaw
- Felix Rohatyn
Thanks!
Dick Fuld probably deserves a mention, especially if Schwartz gets one. Dude built Lehman into a powerhouse.
I also think Lloyd Blankfein deserves to be added as well, maybe with a focus his work done during the financial crisis and overall roll at Goldman Sachs. Maybe grouped with Dimon?
John Paulson and Bill Gross...
Piece on the Great Recession would be good for those two.
Dan Loeb would be an interesting read.
This is really heavily weighted towards PE and HF...almost to a fault (imo). There are like 3 actual Investment Bankers on here...Rohatyn, Schwartz and (I guess) Milken. Dimon was never an investment banker.
Sidney Weinberg - Guy who took GS from a small jewish trading firm to the behemoth we know today
Bruce "Bid em up" Wasserstein - probably the biggest of the BSDs around.
Lawyers need to be considered: Joe Flom, Marty Lipton- The guys who invented M&A and hostile deals -Lipton created the poison pill.
Absolutely these
Joe Flom has an incredible story - touched on it when I was reading outliers.
John Pierpont Morgan
Marcus Goldman/Samuel Sachs
Hank Paulson
John Gutfreund
Vernon Jordan
Geoff Biosi
Paul Taubman
Frank Quattrone
Eric Gleacher
Jeff Beck
Ivan Boesky
Good additions! especially if the title is: most influential/famous Wall St figures
Mitt Romney could be a good addition since he is well known as a politician and has notable experience in consulting and PE. If you want to include real estate, you could consider Barry Sternlicht, Steven Ross, Sam Zell, and Gerald Hines. Sternlicht and Zell are more applicable to finance since they are in the REPE and REIT spaces, whereas the others are known more for development.
agree on MR- didn't see your post before putting mine up but great suggestions in RE as well.
Warren Buffett
Are you going to be interviewing these guys like on a podcast?
If so, would recommend adding David Solomon, Andy Richard, Richard Rivero, Steve, Mike Baum, Christian Bale and Thomas Eddleton (Goldman).
Reggie Browne may help as well. He's been on magazine covers called "The Godfather of ETFs" (Forbes) and "Mr. ETF" (Businessweek)
Jordan Belfort
Patrick Bateman
Haha?
think you should take names off the list like Jamie Dimon, etc. they have big positions of power but aren't necessarily people who have "created" their own position if that makes sense. They aren't really people I would "look up to" (though they obviously have done a lot I'm sure) it's about managing something that already exists opposed to being an industry changer and creating their own positions in the world (PE, HF, or even IB boutiques).
I'd add Mitt Romney to the list because of how different his story is / what hes managed to accomplish without being that "radical". He has an interesting number of contributions from consulting to finance which I thought was cool. Maybe not as much as the rest but someone to consider.
Thanks a lot guys!
It's crazy how many notable ones I forgot. I guess I'll have to sacrifice some to keep the list under 25.
The ones I'll scrap are definitely Jamie Dimon and Paul Tudor Jones, also not sure about Paul Singer and Michael Steinhardt when looking at all the people I might have to add.
Bill Ackman for famous and Julian Robertson for influential
Robertson for sure
Would be interesting to look into the recent rise of EBs and the people behind them: Paul Taubman, Ken Moelis, Roger Altman, Blair Effron, etc.
Leon Black is a very interesting guy. There was a good Bloomberg article written about him a few months back
