Living in BKLYN

Hi all,

Got a job in FiDi and am considering leaving home. My current office is in Midtown and I live along on the 7 train in Queens (childhood home) so the commute was always easy from home (Sunnyside, Queens) for the last two years. The commute to FiDi is about 45 minutes to an hour compared to 20-30 minutes to midtown for me. I have always loved Brooklyn and know there is plenty of FiDi folks living there. Would living in Williamsburg, Boerem Hill etc. be doable to maintain a 30 minute commute at most. Having grown up in NYC, I absolutely do not want to live in Manhattan.

Yes definitely doable to Fidi. Probably can do a under 20 minute commute on a weekday morning - just live close to the subway stop. Weekends are trickier especially if you're reliant on the L from Williamsburg, they have been doing weekend work for years - at least Boerem Hill you're close to a ton of options

I wouldn't say that the commute is the deciding factor.  How do you like living at home?  You'll pay $3-4k/mo maybe more to live in BK than you will living at home, that's the deciding factor. (remember with taxes, you have to get a raise double that for it to even out)  I also work downtown, and am considering ditching a 25 minute commute from JC for a 40 minute one from Astoria for nicer neighborhood and a place I own.

It's not the commute, it's how badly you want out from your parents supervision.
