Living Plans for Long-Run

I think it's safe to say that most people who work in finance on this board live/work in the NYC area. Many hope to break into private equity, venture capital, or hedge funds going forward.

Do all or most of you plan to live and work around NYC for the long-run, though? I work in the city now and love it, especially being in my 20s. But part of me really would like to work and live in a different area of the country such as Charlotte, Orlando, D.C., or Atlanta, especially when raising a family going forward. I just don't see myself in NYC for the long-haul, at least at this point.

SF kicks ass, only place to be for VC and decent pe's, great city.

I would reconsider Atlanta and D.C., high crime rate and not exactly finance friendly unlike NYC/SF.

I did my investment banking years in a Southern city and it is definitely a great place to raise a family. People there aré friendly and life moves at a much slower pace. Its nice not being surrounded by finance guys all the time.

Personally, i hate NYC and have purposefully avoided jobs there. Plenty of finance options exist outside NYC, don't feel the need to be there to grow your career. My goal is to get My MBA and then return to PE. My two primary targets geographically aré Europe and So. Cal.
