Media CEOs Gettin' Paid (Plus one new hot trailer!)

I for one welcome our media overlords. In an industry that has been pronounced ancient/slowing/stagnant by many critics, one thing that has been rising in recent years is the CEO's pay. Normally, this isn't a big deal. But media is a very unstable business, and in an ever-changing landscape, especially with how things are nowadays with the rise of digital media, these compensation packages can be a bit ludicrous from an outsider's perspective.

As a lowly analyst for one of the aforementioned media companies, I look forward to the day that I climb to that top of the mountain so I will keep my mouth shut for the time being. But just when will the shareholders begin speaking up?

What’s the difference between a media mogul and a chief executive elsewhere in the business world? About $10 million in compensation, give or take.

Leaders in other industries may be well paid, but as the accompanying chart shows, they earn far less than their media counterparts.

Consider: the top 20 companies in the United States ranked by market capitalization include no media companies. But according to figures assembled for The New York Times by Equilar, which compiles data on executive compensation, media companies employ seven of the top 20 highest paid chief executives.

The names are familiar and the numbers are large: Leslie Moonves of CBS ($60,253,647), David M. Zaslav of Discovery Communications ($49,932,867), Robert A. Iger of Walt Disney ($37,103,208), Philippe P. Dauman of Viacom ($33,396,104), Jeffrey L. Bewkes of Time Warner ($25,670,263), Brian L. Roberts of Comcast ($25,087,379), and Rupert Murdoch of News Corporation ($22,418,292).

One new hot trailer for you movie folks and have a two minute break. Quick note: if you complain about any "spoiler" in this trailer, it will be really hard for me to refrain myself from throwing a MS at you ;)

I think this looks quite awesome if you ask me. The # of Academy Award nominees is a tad high for my liking but i ain't complaining. This has been long time in the making and I truly hope this does well. The Inceptionesque music is a bit tired, but I am legit excited about it.
