Most Efficient Routine - first part of the day

Hey, as per the subject - and it's a serious post - I am looking for the most efficient morning / first half of the day routine (until 3-4pm?).

It's the most intense time of the day. I'm trying to push limits of my efficiency and save those invaluable minutes for nicer activities around evening.

Would love to hear your broad routines. For example, do you only grab a coffee at home/way to the office and eat breakfast at the desk, what kind of meals, what kind of supplements are you taking, do you work out early, how do you wash in the morning (I know a couple of people who only get dressed at home and wash their teeth and do their hair in the office lol).

Also - what are the first work-related things that you check off the list? Do you have any specific order (E.g. mails, or modelling in the morning to maximize mental capacity).

Thanks.

To maximize efficiency in the first half of your day, here's a structured routine based on the most helpful WSO content:

Morning Routine (Pre-Work)

  1. Wake Up Early: Aim for consistency in your wake-up time. Avoid snoozing—get up immediately.
  2. Hydration & Supplements: Start with a glass of water to rehydrate. If you take supplements, morning is a good time for essentials like Vitamin D or Omega-3s.
  3. Exercise: A short workout (20-30 minutes) can energize you for the day. Options include pushups, planks, or a quick jog. This pumps blood and boosts focus for the first half of the day.
  4. Hygiene: Keep it efficient. Some professionals streamline their routine by dressing at home but handling minor grooming (like hair touch-ups) at the office.
  5. Breakfast: Opt for a clean, energy-packed meal. Examples include oatmeal with fruit, eggs with whole-grain toast, or a smoothie. If you're short on time, grab something portable and eat at your desk.

Work Routine (First Half of the Day)

  1. Coffee Timing: Drink your coffee at your desk when you start work. This ensures the caffeine kicks in as you begin your tasks.
  2. Tackle the Hardest Tasks First: Your mind is clearest in the morning. Use this time to address the most challenging or mentally demanding work, such as financial modeling or problem-solving.
  3. Emails & Admin Tasks: Avoid wasting your peak mental energy on emails or minor tasks. Save these for later in the day when your focus naturally dips.
  4. Breaks: Schedule short breaks to maintain productivity. A quick 10-minute walk or breathwork (e.g., two long inhales followed by an exhale) can help reset your focus.
  5. Snacks: Keep healthy snacks like nuts or fruit on hand to maintain energy levels without crashing.

Midday (Around 1 PM)

  1. Lunch: Choose a balanced meal with carbs, protein, and healthy fats. Carbs can help with serotonin production, which supports mood and focus.
  2. Light Exercise: If possible, a quick 20-25 minute workout (e.g., planks, burpees) can re-energize you for the afternoon.

Additional Tips

  • Habit Tracking: Use a habit tracker to monitor your routine and identify areas for improvement.
  • Distraction Management: Block distractions using tools like ColdTurkey if working from home.
  • Visual Focus: Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen and focus on a distant object to reduce eye strain and improve mental clarity.

By structuring your morning and early afternoon this way, you'll maximize efficiency and free up time for more enjoyable evening activities.

OMAD bro. Just eat dinner and no midday fatigue.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

I did that for Lent and tbh enjoyed it a lot. This week I'm back to lunch and even getting breakfast with a coworker tomorrow and already feel sluggish and sort of want to get back to OMAD, or at least seriously shift around what I eat/when. Happy Easter!
