Moving to NYC. Resources to Find an Apt?
Moving to NYC in the next 2 months and planning on scouring Craigslist and Streeteasy when the time comes. Anywhere else I should be looking?
Will be looking for an entire 1BR or 2BR.
Thanks.

Naked apartments. Not joking on the website name.
Naked apartment just recently acquired streeteasy, or the other way around Regardless, that website/websites are amazing for finding places. From my research, Brooklyn (Williamsburg/Greenpoint) has shown a huge decline in rent prices. The only caveat is that landlords are giving you 3-4 months off to lower the yearly rent payment. After the lease has to be renewed, if things improve I highly doubt they'll give you any months off.
All other parts of NYC have shown only modest declines, if any at all.
Given covid, I highly recommend you walk around the neighboorhood you would want to live in and look for signs marketing empty apartments. Landlords don't want to put all of their empty apartments on the market to prevent a further decline in rents and real estate value, so if you're savy enough you can probably get a great deal on an apartment that's not posted anywhere.
Quick Guide:
Upper East and Upper West will give you the best value for your apartment (things may have changed with covid, but from my brief search I only saw Brooklyn to have the drastic decrease in prices that I would expect given the current tenant situation). The caveat is your commute might not be the best. I think Upper West will have better nightlife because you're close to Columbia University, and that area is filled with bars. If you're by Lenox Hill on the Upper East, you're in ok shape as that place is filled with bars too, but outside of Lenox Hill Upper East is boring as fuck.
Hell's Kitchen has good quality apartments too, could be hard to snag a good deal, but they're not the worst. Avoid any apartments close to Time Square. That area is sketchy as fuck. Nightlife is great, close to everything.
West Village is so expensive. Great area to live in, but apartment situation sucks unless you're willing to shell out serious dough. Nightlife is great.
East Village has great apartments if you live far east. Otherwise it's the same situation as West VIllaage. Nightlife is super rachet and fun.
Fidi has good quality apartments too, but that area is so boring.
