My Beer Rankings

I'm only ranking large brands that you would be able to find in most stores, no microbrewery stuff, in the order of my personal preference:

1st favorite: German wheat beer (hefeweizen). Weihenstephaner is my favorite big brand beer by far. There are certainly far better weissbiers but I believe this one is the easiest brand to find. Hoegaarden and Funky Buddha hefeweizen are great but idk how easy they are to find.

2nd favorite: Mexican beers. Anything you would put a lime in. Corona, Modelo, Pacifico, Presidente, Dos Equis. All super refreshing. Would always be happy if a friend at a bar bought a round of any of these.

3rd favorite: American Beers. Blue Moon, Shock Top, Sam Adams, Allagash White, etc. I understand there's a lot of variety here but I like them all equally.

4th favrotie: European beers. Heineken, Stella Artois, Peroni. All good options. Always enjoyable.

5th favorite: Pee water beers. Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light, Busch Light, Natty Light. Not that I don't enjoy these but unless I'm at a college party or watching football, these aren't what I would go for.

At the end of the day, if it's cold, I'll enjoy it. Interested to see how others would categories and rank their favorite beers.

Gotta stay away from the snorting brother. It’s changed so much from even when I was in college - fentanyl everywhere

Very true. I'm man enough to admit that I took ski trips a bit too many times back in my college days. Chemical addiction was the most pressing thing at the time - nowadays, it's not even that anymore. Fent is put into so many drugs, and it's just killing off people by the thousands. While I don't take any recreational drugs anymore besides nicotine & alcohol (trying to cut off of those two... damn is it hard), have plenty of buddies who get dab pen carts from offshore, cutting up any bag of powder that they get through "their guy". One day, one of them is gonna turn up dead, and it pains me to think about it.

If we're talking available nationwide: Shiner.  If I wanted something a little more unique, Warsteiner. Then Dos Equis as a fallback. Not sure if Purple Haze is nationwide yet, but boy do I love me some.  At the bottom would be Bud Light, but that's like comparing it to sex in a canoe (if you know the joke, you'll get it).

Natty Light is king. Blue Moon Mango is a banger as well.

Beer is inferior to white claw. Use white claws as a mixer for vodka to get hammered but low calorie. High Noon is most elite seltzer

Surprisingly never ended up in a hospital due to drunk shenanigans, especially since I had an affinity for funneling four lokos

If the only Belgian beer you've tried is a Stella Artois then you've clearly been missing out big time my friend... Some suggestions for you to try: Orval, La Chouffe, Delirium Tremens, Kwak (in the original glass), Tripel Karmeliet, Trappistes Rochefort, Affligem, Duvel, Westmalle Tripel, La Trappe, Straffe Hendrik, Oude Geuze, and so many more.

Island Coastal Lager is Second Fastest Growing Lager in the Southeast

https://www.brewbound.com/news/island-coastal-lager-is-second-fastest-g…

CHARLESTON, S.C. –– Island Brands was stoked to learn Island Coastal Lager was the 2nd fastest growing lager in the South East by IRI* Data services for the 52 week period ending Dec 29, 2019. With exponential growth of 433%* , ICL is outpacing all other major domestic and imported lagers including Michelob Ultra, Corona and Michelob Pure Gold.

This news follows a momentous year for Island Brands. In 2019 alone, they forged a brewing partnership with New Belgium to handle all brewing, quality control and logistics. Switched distribution partners from five wine centric distributors to over 60 best in class beer distributors that can now manage the high velocity beer style, volume and growth rate. Additionally, the Island team continued to build and grow relationships with some of the world’s largest retailers including Costco, Publix, and Walmart.

Those calories are good for a 4.2% abv. Do you like it?

I haven't tried it yet. But, yeah 88 calories for the Island Active beer is really low. It is impressive. I'll try it sometime.

I don't think this grouping really makes sense given how much variety there is in American beers, e.g. Landshark is basically a clara just like Modelo and Allagash White is basically a german wheat beer (as good as any I'd argue). The US beer scene is fantastic because of how unregulated or standardized it is

> 5th favorite: Pee water beers

The great thing about most of these beers is that they don't taste like very much of anything at all, which is preferable to a bad tasting cheap beer.

I’m super into the “nicer” lagers - specifically Michelobs, and especially the lime/gold Michelobs. 95 calories and taste refreshing while not being too strong (like an IPA) or too watery (like a bud light). Also love a good Corona/Modelo.

I had an IPA phase in college and love a good IPA with a hearty meal. Tended to go with the less hoppy/more fruity ones. But they have too many calories and with sitting at a desk all day and drinking often on the weekends, I’ve realized I can’t be drinking 10 IPAs when I go out. Light beers, claws, and vodka sodas for me boiz.

I also love a Sour Monkey every once in a while because they get you absolutely fucked up (~9% ABV) and taste great, they just don’t sit that well if you drink too many.
