Career Resources
Have a conversation with your wife about what she wants to do, and make it clear that you'd be happy with whichever for all of the reasons you've stated, including wanting to see her continue to grow professionally when she decides it's time. Her parents perception about where your career should have ended up 10 years from now is a bit silly, no? What every woman wants is to be heard and supported. I wouldn't pitch the idea of whoever is less successful in X time should stay at home with the kids, the "loser" has to stay home? Which wasn't your intent or meaning. It sounds like you just need to listen to her thoughts. Good luck man.
Useful, thanks. Of course talking to her openly about things is half the battle.
Damn it would be nice to have top 1% problems like this. Maybe one day....
Keep on baking and one day.....
500k/yr? no bro don't even think like that.
Its triple comma or nothing.
Can confirm.
Patriarchy works. Don't let these SJWs fool you.
But, you're in a tough spot. MBB is not the place for a woman to have/raise children. Travel demands and hours are extreme. She's at least 27, so max 8 years for you guys to start a family assuming you want 2 or 3 kids and she's HEALTHY/FIT. Will she have achieved all her profession aspirations and be ready to settle into a local, low demand role by 35? Probably not. So...
I'd recommend surrogates and nannies/mistresses. Plus, you could ask your respective mothers to help while the kids are 3. You're gonna be rich, so you can afford to make it work. I'd wish you luck, but you don't need it!
I'm gonna be a stay at home dad. Can't wait. Gimme like 2 years
pay for a hot 21 year old au pair to stay with you.
Being a stay-at-home dad doesn’t work. Don’t do that. The choice for a successful family is either you both keep working and have no kids or she stops and you have kids. Any other permutation is suboptimal. That’s just biology. Women and men are different. If someone is bitter because they gave up a career to have a family....that’s on them. That’s not indicative of a “problem” with the arrangement. If you want a family, then you have to make it a high priority. And that means having a wife that will help raise your kids. At least until they’re old enough to spend most of their time out of the house.
There’s a reason that for tens of thousands of years humans have developed a division of labor within the family between men & women. It works. Women and men have different talents, skillsets, strengths and weaknesses. Instead of trying to pretend that’s not true or expend needless energy trying to cover this up or adjust for it, leverage it.
My wife wants to pursue a career in policy/advocacy and I run a property management company and invest in real estate from home. I can totally do that while raising a kid. And I'm actually super excited to have a kid and be a dad. I think it's going to be extremely fulfilling and I think part of it is some yearning to right my own dad's wrongs. I just quit my job last month actually. I think it'll work out great. I do agree that if I didn't bring income myself, it would make my wife subconsciously or whatever lose respect and therefore attraction for me and that would be a problem.
Well, that's kind of what I mean....it's rare for that type of job to come along, seems like OP isn't really going to be in that position. Mostly what I'm referring to is the case where he nukes his own career just to make his wife happy. That will have the absolute opposite effect.
How often do you procreate with her, given she's so busy!??
Well um... At least I can say there's a good diversity in opinions out there.
