No life, only work.
I don’t care about any hobbies. Even if I had the time, I wouldn’t want to pursue them because I'd rather work. There is always something to work on.
I’m sociable, but I couldn’t care less about being at social gatherings. I worked on Christmas and New Year's last year by choice, alongside other occasions where work would typically be the last thing on your mind. I know what you’re thinking: this guy must be a loser. But I can’t force myself to stop thinking about work. Both of my parents are bankers, so I inherited their work ethic. I know it’s not healthy, but I can’t help it.
I can turn my charisma on like a faucet, so I’m not some wildebeest-looking ogre who can’t socialize or doesn’t have friends.
I’m still young and have an offer at a BB, so I see it like this:
- Burnout (maybe).
- Continue working and let that define my life.
Advice?
Just do whatever makes you happy bro. If you enjoy what you do then keep doing it
Man wth
...
You have an offer at a BB? Are you even working full time yet?
If not, then this whole take is meaningless. Lmk when you actually hit the slog of a full time job for years watching your life pass by from a cubicle in a windowless room. I’m 25 and thought I was all in for the grind 3 years ago…your view may change over time.
If you’ve been out of school for awhile than idk man, see a therapist.
There are so many seasoned vets on this website who haven’t started working in IB yet it’s so funny
Its a tuff world we live in
You need to jerk off more often
You want a cookie or something? Go ask the PE guy who had a meltdown a couple days ago on what to do, you two seem to be perfect for one another.
I am like you. I love to work and it feels good to do that which you are good at. So nothing bad with and even less if you don't feel like doing other things. Just don't let it become a sort of arrogance that you're better than others. Not all will give as many fucks as you professionally long-term.
Having work define your life is setting yourself up for disaster. You have to have an identity outside of work or else when you get shitcanned for something outside of your control, you will be left with nothing. Sure, work your ass off if that's what you're into, but don't let work completely define you.
“I can turn my charisma on like a faucet” has never been said by a guy with charisma
why not?
“Man, I fuckin love working. Never want to do anything else but work.” - guy who has never worked a day in his life
lol
Two good ones… chuckled when reading first and laughed out loud while reading the second one...
@OP — do a year in the trenches and you’ll know.. the other advice here to make frequent “sense/sanity-checks” and find other things important to you is valuable, take it to heart.
I’d also be cautious with being so sure of yourself when everyone here sees this to be hubris rather than appropriate self assessment…
Tism alert 🚨
Bro just finished watching Jim Donovan's "Are you destined to deal"
can't blame him, I felt the same way
Top G, you’re at a BB. Grind to get into an EB now, then get top group, get into MF, and get into HBS/GSB. That should fill up your time now.
