NYC Apartment Advice for Incoming Analyst

Hi guys I will be an investment banking analyst working on Madison Avenue. I’ll be very honest, ik nothing about nyc. I’m a first generation kid so my parents cant help me much and don’t really know people living in NYC. Doing research sounds like gibberish and just wanted to ask where yall would advice a first year analyst to live? I’m looking to be really close to work and don’t mind co-sharing spaces? $2500 - $3000 PM? I’m also happy to hearing anything. Just wanted general advice.

Could find a spot really anywhere on the east side of Manhattan. Murray hill, kips bay and turtle bay should be walking distance to the office and have rent within your budget, especially if willing to have roomates and will be around young professionals.

If you don’t mind a quick train commute, could look at places in upper east side (bit sleepier / older vibe) or east village / lower east side (younger, more night life focused)

I was a bit overwhelmed ahead of moving to the city as well. It’s really not as deep as you think it is, work is going to consume most of your time as a first year so as long as your commute is under ~30 min it’s fine. You’ll be able to get a sense of what neighborhoods you like during the weekends and figure out from there. You’re only signing a year lease, and whatever roommates you decide to live with (random or not) are also temporary

I'd go East Village or LES. Take the 6 or B/D train up. Younger areas and a lot less finance bro-ish than Murray Hill, etc. Both will be a little bit grungy though, but good for night life. If you move to East Village I'd get a spot as far west as you can / not too far from the 6. I wouldn't go to Avenue A/B/C/D.

If you want to be able to walk to the office yeah Murray Hill etc. also work like the other guy said. If I was 22/23 and single tho I would want to be downtown in EV or LES.
