Pope Demands 'Legitimate Redistribution' of Wealth
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_REL_VATICAN_UN?SITE=AP&SECTIO…
WTF is the Pope doing? Going to the UN and pushing for government redistribution of wealth to offset the evils of capitalism. Does this guy follow history or know anything about economics?
Doubtful, does he even know that the Catholic Church is one of the richest organizations on the planet? Doubt it.
well he comes from a country of exemplary economic policies, so i'm not really surprised
I mean I don't expect the Pope to be a champion of Wall Street, but WTF is he doing trying to promote this crap. Seems like he is over his ski's with this.
blessed are the poor has always been a major tenant of the bible i don't get why you're so suprised
I am surprised when the Pope wades into an obviously political issue. One could strongly argue that capitalism has raised more people out of poverty than donations from the church or any other political ideology.
Actually, the line is "blessed are the poor in spirit" which is widely accept as meaning "be humble".
Pope Francis, CFA
LOL all I can say is that watching the Christian Right steam over this is going to be funny. I'm turning on CBN, reading FRCBlog.com, and grabbing a box of popcorn.
In fairness, the Christian right is basically Protestant based. I'm sure Baptists down south don't give a shit what the Pope says or does.
I am for redistributing the Church wealth to all the sodomized altar boys.
Ugh, I don't even mind this pope but this makes me cringe. Why don't you focus on right-sizing your own shitshow of an organization, Francy? Your job description does not include giving shitty, sweeping policy advice to the world at large...why don't you sell some of your fucking gold talismans and give the proceeds to the poor while you're at it.
Pope is allowed to talk about redistributing wealth all he wants. Freedom of Speech.
Pope should not be talking about this all of the time on behalf of the church.
Focus needs to be on the gospel message.
i don't see anywhere in this article that points to the pope trying to speak for the church furthermore, it would seem silly that the pope would have to explicitly say "this is my opinion, not the churches!!!" every time he opened his mouth
anyway, given that the pope is more or less a democratically elected position, i'm sure the sentiments of those around him aren't dramatically different
The pope has made his political viewpoints clear, but they are starting to become a distraction. Just like the Christian Right's politics became a distraction to the Evangelical Church during the Bush presidency.
I am confused. Is this a satirical post? haha
@IlliniProgrammer: The internet is a poor place for a discussion on theology and religion, two subjects I find interesting as intellectual art (beauty is truth, truth is beauty?). I'd be more than happy to discuss further at the next WSO drinks for the sake of interesting discussion, without me trying to win any point.
His frustratingly ambiguous stance on social policy combined with his horrendously liberal economic views are why I and every other Protestant roll our eyes twice over whenever the Pope speaks.
