Putin’s New Vision of Eurasia

Many western politicians have harbored deep suspicions of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Vladimorovich Putin since he first emerged on the Russian political stage in 1999.

This is hardly surprising, given his KGB background, though those with longer historical memories will recall that Yuri Andropov came from the same organization and that the West grudgingly found a way to work with him.

While the worst aspects of the Cold War faded away with the peaceful collapse of the USSR in late 1991, twenty years later, trying to figure out Kremlin politics remains as vital an exercise as ever, and the “Putin era” has provided Washington analysts desperately reinventing themselves to hang on to their jobs with rich fodder.

Is Putin a democrat?

Stalinist?

Or something in between?

Place your bets.

What does seem to be apparent

EUSSR?

Putin is as corrupt as they come. Check out his estimated net worth, he's completely gone around his own countries constitution, sells weapons to anyone at all (All the worlds nasties), and helps crackpot dictatorships build nuclear technology.

Sadly, because russians are batshit crazy they support this stuff.

Plus he ordered a hit on a guy living in London, and wont hand over the assassin.

Not my favourite person....

Capitalist Autocrat.

My personal view is that Russia is not developed enough to a trully democratic system to flourish. Rampant corruption and poor economic outlook, hinder its potential growth. The most appropriate way to deal with this is to rule with an iron fist. Kind of like Lee Kuan Yew transformed Singapore from a shit hole to a burgeoning metropolis. I think Putin realizes this, but in the end if he temptations into corruption supercede his desire for a restoration of Russia, then all is fucked.
