Quinnipiac G.A.M.E. Forum

Recently got informed that I am 1 of 30 students invited to go on a trip to the Quinnipiac G.A.M.E. Forum at the end of the month. We'll be staying at the Hilton in Midtown. I go to a total non-target in Florida, so I'm excited to finally be visiting the biggest city in the country where all the finance magic happens.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about how these forums are? We have an itinerary, but I'd appreciate any insight if anyone has any.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations of what I should do while in NYC for 5 days?

I have not been to the GAME Forum personally but I have heard good things about it from when I was in undergrad. It is a great opportunity to meet students who are similar in age and going through similar recruiting processes in the future. While these relationship are likely to not help get you in the door for your first job out of school in the form of a recommendation, these people will be rising through the ranks at various firms/fields and those relationships can pay dividends in the future. I think that is often overlooked.

Also, search for alumni from your non-target who are working in finance in NYC on linkedin, explain that you will be in the city for the forum and would appreciate the opportunity to meet. Try to set up coffee chats and informational interviews with people working at firms and fields (IB, AM, PE, ect) you are interested in. Make it a goal to meet at least one new person per day. This will be a great jump start on the next recruiting season.

Lastly, you'll be in one of the most exciting and dynamic cities in the country for 5 day... enjoy it! Check out some fun restaurants/bars, go to a museum, explore the city, ect. Between the forum and networking, there will be plenty of professional development so be sure to enjoy your time in the city as well.

I appreciate the in depth response. I have a tentative offer for my desired starting career in risk in NC, but I appreciate the advice in making connections that could potentially be beneficial years down the road. Great idea to search LinkedIn for alumni from my school. There aren't a ton, but there are more than I had originally thought so I will try to get in touch with a few of them. I know we're going to visit the NYSE to see the opening bell, along with the headquarters of Bloomberg. Looking forward to visiting! Thanks again!
