SSits:

Do you ever think perhaps they *have* figured life out, more than you?

no and thats why I can't imagine getting married before I have a legit career where I won't be mostly dependent on my parents' money. I don't think I KNOW for a fact that I'll always have a job where I want to live vs. where a good living can be made nor do I think I know my desires will be the same in 5 yrs. There's a reason they say marriages before 28 usually flop quick

i think it's great that you have a goal, but you shouldn't rip on people because they're not following your desired path this, coupled with the fact that you had to explicitly POINT OUT to us that you were NOT considering ops or sales (god forbid), leads me to believe that you're not as secure as you make yourself out to be

good luck with your endeavors, but please try to be a more open minded person

.

I don't know about you, but I had a legit career as soon as I graduated from college, and my parents stopped helping me out with bills way before that. I made money every summer in high school, and throughout college (both during the school year and over the summer).

Some people graduate with jobs and do know what they want. I also don't know what your source of "marriages before 28 flop".

Anyway, like others have said, it is a good thing that you have goals and that you are thinking about your plan in life. But not everyone has the same plan or follows the same path. It is a bit arrogant to think that you know better.

Who cares. Like just avoid or stop hanging out with them. I agree with you though, always boggles my mind why people rush to get married. Some people just do it though. Find new friends and forget about them.

Dude, to put it a little bit more harshly than the other (probably nicer) people above have put it - you may be retarded, and are definitely unnecessarily arrogant.

Do you really think that a higher SAT score or working in what you'd basically call "real" finance makes you a better person or more correct? You're so ignorant it's making me laugh.

1) Do you think that everyone who works outside "real" finance, medicine, law etc (as you've implied) take money from their parents? That's plain false. 2) You can actually make a solid living in most places working in ops, and if you're good you can make a KILLING in sales (even more than you hope to make in "real" finance, believe it or not) 3) There is nothing wrong with people marrying early, taking jobs they're interested in and sacrificing huge incomes - as SSits said, maybe they have got it figured out and you haven't. I am heading into IB from a so-called target school, because I want a high income and don't mind exchanging my time for it - but maybe one day I'll realize that I should have had half the money and twice the free time. I'm not getting married till I'm nearly 30 for a number of financial reasons (b-school, cost of wedding etc) among other reasons, but I've been in the same relationship since spring semester of freshman year.

You sound super insecure. Behavioural problems in HS? No shit!

whoa whoa no need for the haterade. Are you gonna look me in the eye, or my post in the text, and tell me that cold-calling is a good way to make a living? How many percent of stock-brokers fail? Hows the turnover in retail equities sales? Ops? Geez, so many skills they've built up, doing essentially work which only requires a finance degree because everyone has a college degree these days, any plans for the next recession? Sorry, but clearly I don't see many people on here aspiring to ops. Is 40k a solid living when you're 30? I will mention my MSF is a semi-target that has pretty strong placement.

I never said my higher SAT score than the people I went to school with makes me better, but some of them, not all or most, but SOME, were serious airheads. Going to school with a lotta people who'd ask "What's a Nasdaq?" or who said "our school will join the Ivy League soon" wasn't fun. The school I went to had a lotta rich kids, and underemployment is a national problem, not that I was dissing professions in themselves. I'm not arrogant: I just want something that has staying power. Something with which I can be a breadwinner. Something that I won't get smoked by a recession like 2008.

You are clearly misinformed if you think you make 40k in ops at 30....I will tell you that you can make a ton of money in sales, there is no disputing that fact - I didn't say sales is cold calling or retail equities.

You are also misinformed if you think that IB takes superior intelligence or an elevated skillset - most people doing things like ops also possess the skills to do IB and could learn to do the job successfully, no problems. Also, "what are you going to do during the next recession?" You clearly overestimate the job security in things like IB and other FO roles in finance.

I have seen your posts elsewhere re: terrible gmat scores, "non-legit" jobs out of college, finally heading to a MSF etc. Re: your non-arrogance - let's just call it a difference of opinion and leave it at that. It baffles me that you seem to look down on people because they aren't looking for the jobs you want to do and are finally heading towards, and also for marrying early. As I said in my last post, I am not getting married early either, but I know people who got married very early (and people who will be getting married soon in their early 20s) and they are the happiest people I've ever met...it's a huge generalisation to say people who get married early are mediocre with no ambition.

According to the things you seem to value (FO jobs, top schools etc) in all honesty I have done better than you have at this point in my life than you had a couple of years ago when leaving college (top target school, FO IB job, current profile making me competitive for a top MBA program in a few years etc)....yet you seem to think that you're miles ahead of the "mediocre" person you describe, when I just think that I have different priorities and am in no way a better person. I know people much more accomplished than I am who are also more humble than me - either you're fooling yourself by saying you're not extremely arrogant, or you just represent yourself severely inaccurately.

A few points:

1) Someone in ops at 30 is not making 40K. You should be making more than 40K right out of college in ops.

2) Do you know what ops does? Do you know how many different type of ops/back office roles there are? You imply that back office roles don't require any skills, that is not right.

3) If you want something that has staying power there are tons of non-finance positions that offer this.

You want something with staying power that will survive an '08-esque recession...and you are trying to get into IB/high finance. Yeah perfect logic there, pretty much nobody in the industry lost a job in '07-'09. As for the rest of your comments, you are seriously misguided and immature. Don't worry though, life will fix that with a few bitch slaps in the future. If it doesn't then I doubt issues such as marriage will be a cause for concern for you any time soon.

OP, you are so misguided that it is plain funny. Humility, it is an important trait especially for someone who hasn't done anything in his life. A physical therapist especially a good one who has his own practice would make more money than you would in your so called legit finance roles. And god forbid someone works in ops. Wow, what a loser?

You sound embittered and even hostile. It seems like you are seeking refuge in your MSF from a semi-target because you are extremely unsatisfied in your life while all your giddy friends are getting married. You are trying to justify your life choices by defining them as something that is more important than theirs.

But remember, there are millions of people in the world who are gonna be more successful than you even with your MSF from a semi-target. Just remember if they start treating you the same way you would treat your so called friends given the option, it wouldn't be such a fun time for you.

As you approach your early 30's, you'll begin to ask "Where did all the good girls go?" You'll begin to wonder if they every existed, and why you're surrounded by gold diggers, girls past their prime, mental disorders, red flags, divorcees and single mothers. The answer is, of course they are out there....she married your friend that she met sophomore year of college, you called him whipped.

If you make enough money, or age gracefully you can date younger girls as you get older, but even then, the competition for the true good girls left is intense.

There's nothing wrong with marrying the right girl (although, I think it's best to date her for a while without getting married), instead of sleeping around in your 20's. I broke up with my college sweetheart because I wanted to sleep around....I was very lucky to get her back years later. Casual sex and dating around is exciting for a time, but it gets old quick. Nothing sucks more than getting a promotion...and then realizing you don't have that special someone in your life to share it with.
