Richmond VA vs Memphis TN

I know they're not the most ideal places. With that in mind, which one do you think is better?

I feel like Richmond would be less Southern in mentality? It's 2 hours away from DC. It's 1 hour away from the ocean.

Memphis is larger, though. They both have bad crime rates, but Memphis has worse.

The crime in Richmond is incredibly centralized to a few select locations. I have never once felt unsafe in the city or the surrounding areas that I go to. If you choose to visit the section 8 housing and projects then yes crime can be very bad.

Richmond is probably less "southern" than Memphis. You can find a strong southern feel if that's what your looking for, but there is also plenty of modern/diverse characteristics. Its really up to you and who you surround yourself with.

The finance community is small and tight knit, but I would say very strong for a city of its size.

Richmond can be great but its definitely up to you and what you make of it. Most people I know tend to love it, but some come in expecting it to compare it to NYC, DC, or Philly which just isn't the way to view it.

Richmond is basically unbeatable for cost of living:shit to do ratio. I would highly recommend it.
