Roommate September 1st Move-in

My roommate and I (24M and 25M) are looking for someone to fill a room in our 3 bed / 2 bath apartment in east village for a September 1st move-in. The rent is $2500 and the apartment comes with a washer/dryer and a dishwasher and I can send a video over of the place to anyone that's interested.

A little bit about us, my roommate currently works in tech and commutes to the office 3-4 days a week, and I work in finance and commute 3 days a week. We are both into sports so most of our weekends are spent either watching games or playing pickup games around Manhattan. We also enjoy staying active as much as possible, whether that be going to the gym, golfing, basketball, etc. as well as going out on the weekends to different bars and restaurants around the city. My roommate just started a masters program online so will be really busy with that for the upcoming months. We are both fairly clean people and keep both our rooms and the common areas clean as possible. Overall we are both pretty relaxed guys that are down for whatever and looking for someone who we can be friends with to move in. Feel free to dm me on here if you’re interested or want to learn more about the place.

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some key points to consider when looking for a roommate and moving into an apartment in NYC:

  1. Budget and Financial Preparedness:

    • Ensure you have enough saved up for the initial costs. For a $2500/month apartment, you might need around $8,000-$9,000 upfront, including the first and last month's rent, security deposit, and broker fee.
    • You may need to show proof of income that is 40-65 times the monthly rent or have a guarantor who makes 100 times the monthly rent.
  2. Timing and Market Speed:

    • The NYC rental market moves very quickly, especially in the summer. It's common to find and apply for an apartment within a few hours of searching.
    • Start looking for apartments about a month before your intended move-in date. Casual browsing on platforms like StreetEasy can help you understand the market and narrow down your options.
  3. Neighborhood Considerations:

    • East Village is a vibrant neighborhood with plenty of bars, restaurants, and activities, making it a good fit for young professionals who enjoy an active social life.
    • Ensure the neighborhood is convenient for your commute and aligns with your lifestyle preferences.
  4. Roommate Compatibility:

    • It's important to find roommates with similar lifestyles and cleanliness habits to ensure a harmonious living situation.
    • Given your interests in sports, staying active, and socializing, finding a roommate with similar interests can enhance your living experience.
  5. Lease and Legalities:

    • Make sure to review the lease terms carefully and understand your rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
    • If possible, visit the apartment in person or request a video tour to ensure it meets your expectations.

Feel free to reach out to potential roommates and provide them with detailed information about the apartment and your lifestyle to find the best match.
