Sergio Wins the Masters. How to improve your course management.

This post is a little long overdue as Sergio won over 2 weeks ago and I haven't made a golf post in awhile. I think a key thing in his win was that he drove the ball like a beast on Sunday and his mental and short game during the back 9 was great.

For most golfers, the mental side and course management is overly critical to shaving off a handful of strokes.

Putting

Probably the least athletic motion in golf but one that is entirely built upon trust and confidence. You really need to focus on 1 swing thought and try to always be optimistic. It's funny how once you play enough golf you can see people be uncertain in their putting and have a very jerky rhythm or stab at their short putts.

All the other clubs

Play within yourself and try to not worry about being perfect. The less swing thoughts you have will make the game a lot easier.

Course Management

This is fairly easy to fix as it mostly has to do with keeping your ego in check. I think most golfers that can't break 80 should be trying to hit their shot the fattest part of the green anytime they have a 7 iron or more into the hole. You will make a lot more pars doing this and will prevent yourself from having shortsided pitch or lob shots that are commonly caused by being overly aggressive. I also would recommend not trying to hit a 3 wood when there are a lot of hazards in your way. For me, I usually only hit my 3 wood when there isn't much trouble in my way of reaching the green and the lie of the ball is decent.

It is also crucial to swing within yourself. Swinging in balance will usually give you decent power and is easier to hit the ball flush.

Highly recommend adding hybrids or driving irons to replace your 3 and 4 irons, they are often longer and launch higher. Wouldn't be a bad idea to add a gap wedge so that you have multiple options from 125 yards and in.

Last but not least is to just know where your limitations are. Don't hit a flop shot if it is something you have never practiced.
