Skillset Transfer

New analysts are coming soon, what a relief..

My place has been sweating down the remaining junior bankers for the past months, referring to new flesh arriving soon at any occasion when complains arose. Now that the new guys are around the corner again they seem to still use higher ups for all the grunt work, grinding out all the things that juniors should be doing. It feels like when I started out all crap work was dumped on me but nowadays these new kids have some sort of attitude that they can choose what to work on etc. Needless to say I will still follow the old routine and give them loads of work but I try to minimize the bullshit work.

I get the feeling it is very difficult to not follow the old approach that I have experienced in the past, being a mean guy who shuffles off as much meaningless work as possible to juniors.I am trying hard to not be like that and make the work at least a bit of enjoyable for everybody involved, but it just seems so easy to dump of work, take off and annoy with endless emails and late calls.

Moving around between roles and trying to pass advice on to juniors seems quite the switch and it seems a lot of junior associates have difficulties managing that and the transition seems to be expected from one day to the other. I have caught myself a few times now just doing the work myself instead of taking the time to explain while taking a step back and letting the juniors take a try. Surely its all part of the learning process but in the end the machine just works you and all the habits establish themselves.

I agree that analysts are fighting against the rest but once you move up it appears you become a part of the rest much quicker than you would like.

What are you talking about? Are you some new breed of banker, the analyst who's also the staffer? Dude, you've been doing this job for probably not even a full year, give me a fucking break with the salty ole' vet routine, I bet I could still find stupid busts in your books. And yes, you were more than likely a over confident little shit head as well. Take a lap sport.
