Do you wear a smart watch or no?
What kind of watch do you wear most of the time? After getting a Garmin fenix in 2018, I'm addicted to all the stats. Can't take it off. Garmin fenix 4 lyfe.

Fancy manual watch + Whoop master race
What watch?
Mechanical only. Most people never actually use the stats they get from their smart watches/wrist thingys to enact meaningful change in their daily habits, it's just collecting data for the sake of collecting data and gives you a false sense of accomplishment.
On my Garmin fenix I have tracked numerous triathlons including swim bike run training. I’ve recorded snowboarding runs going up to 64mph. I’ve tracked stress levels, RHR, sleep stages, and the vibrating alarm is hard to beat. A smart watch plus Strava is a powerful combination. I hold numerous cycling records in my area including going 24.4mph for 50mi on a 1mi loop. My watch also has a wallet, but I don’t use that.
Yeah, Isaiah I'd say you're among the 1% of people who actually use the watch/data as intended. 99% of people just take a look and think if they "closed all their loops" without actually changing their behavior much except for maybe taking a few more steps or standing up more to close the loops, marginal work that doesn't actually meaningfully impact their fitness or health. There is a lot of science now showing that there is no magic number of steps needed to "be healthy", whatever that means, and, while any movement and exercise is good for you, simply hitting the magic number that Apple (or any other tech company) deems appropriate lulls people into a false sense of security. It leads you to believe that you're on the right track and hitting all your goals, despite probably never really elevating your heartrate or straining your muscles in any serious way.
Most people would benefit from leaving the data collection behind and focus on more heuristic methods of determining their fitness. Did that run really strain your breathing? Did you really push that lift set to your limit? Did you really hit a sweat on that bike run? Those questions are far more valuable to the average Joe than tracking your RHR or stress levels.
(Also, in your comment you never mention how you use data you recorded to actually accomplish those feats. Simply recording a great snowboarding run or cycling record on Strava doesn't mean shit, for the sake of this argument, if you're not growing.)
64 on the board, bro is a man of so many talents 💀😭
Regular watch + Oura ring. Love the Garmins though and I've considered getting one
How do you like the Oura ring and how long have you had it? I have heard mixed reviews.
I've had it for 10 months. I like it for the sleep data, I take it off when I lift weights so it's not really a workout tracker for me. It's also interesting to see your stress levels and heart health, however they track that. Beyond just being interesting to see, it doesn't really give me any actionable information besides just get better sleep. I'll probably wear it for 24 months and then cancel it because the monthly fee is annoying.
Use to wear a watch, but after a couple colleagues have been mugged for both a Rolex and Apple watch, I don't wear anything.
Really? Are you in London by chance? Hardly hear of this happening in the US.
one person in Philly the other in DC
Garmin Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar. By a wide margin my favorite piece of tech.
Amen
Currently debating between an Apple Watch or a Garmin. Trying to keep it simple since I'd only use the watch for tracking workouts and running (triathlon). Weighing the pros and cons between both watches but having used an Apple Watch before, it's nice to be able to essentially use the device as a standalone phone for calls, music, browsing, etc.
Maybe I'm abnormal, but I tend to cycle through all of the options. I have the Rolex, Grand Seiko, Apple Watch, Whoop, etc.
I like the data aspects of the smartwatches, but never liked sleeping with one on and didn't really find it super valuable. I think if anything, got too focused on the metrics to try and beat.
I do think that having the "prestige" watches on during client/vendor meetings can help build the relationship if they're into that thing too.
I wore a smart watch for a few years and thought it was pretty damn cool, but over time I realized that I don't really need notified of every text I get, call I get, step I take, second I workout, etc. and some of the cool features like sleep tracking I couldn't use anyhow because the watch had to charge and I'm not about to sleep with it on anyhow. I just genuinely do not need that much data about myself, especially when I already have my phone on me wherever I go. Don't have any interest in a whoop or nova ring or anything either.
Now I wear a normal watch and not only does it look better, it isn't anxiety inducing. I have the obligatory Rolex & Omega, a JLC, and a handful of microbrands that I also love.
People also discount the impact it has when you are in a meeting and constantly looking at the smart watch.
Master Control?
Master Ultra Thin Moon
I turned off notifications on my smart watch - too distracting / too many.
Regular watch only, I daily my Grand Seiko and will probably add something new to the collection soon. Already track my calories and don't want more meaningless metrics to keep track of so I dont wear any other tech band.
no watch :D
shorty i'm seeing rn loves her smartwatch cuz it counts her daily steps
Nice! I think 10K steps is recommend per day. Today for me:
thats great ngl goddam. Yeah walking is very good to maintain long-term health, especially when you get older
Garmin Forerunner 255
I only take it off to charge and that takes like 10min. I 100% use the stats. Also a pretty active triathlete and this watch links to TrainingPeaks and Strava which is worth the money without everything else it does.
No
Regular watch. I simply have no interest in whatever tracking or other features smartwatches have to offer.
I wear Casio from 1999
Always rocking the Garmin 245 music while running, if not running then rocking a mechanical Longines
Classic dress/dive/sport watches always. I could never get into smart watches or other such modern gimmicks.
Mostly this as of late
Wow! Now that’s a timepiece!!! So classy. Nice.
my thoughts on the matter:
hahaha good one
