Sober October 2022

This year I decided to participate in Sober October. 2 weeks in and I am already seeing the benefits of cutting out alcohol.

During a normal month I probably drink more than most people. I go hard on weekends. I blackout when I go out more often than I would like. I spend a lot of my weekends hungover and a big portion of paycheck on alcohol.

On weekdays I like to make a cocktail when I get home from work. I enjoy making different drinks and drinking different wines at restaurants. When I really think about, during any activity I'm doing, I'm usually drinking.

Going to a baseball game? drinking like 8 beers. Going golfing? Probably drinking like 5 transfusions. Brunch with friends? bottomless mimosas. Dinner with a client? multiple glasses of wine. Chilling at home watching TV? drinking a cocktail I made.

I don't think I have an issue with alcohol but nevertheless I wanted to try Sober October. Almost 2 weeks in and I've noticed how much my sleep has improved. My energy levels are so much higher. My workouts in the gym have been much more intense. I never feel bloated anymore. I am thinking more clearly at work. I spend my weekends doing more meaningful activities instead of being hungover in bed.

I won't ever cut out alcohol completely but I see now that I should really cut back. Would love to hear if anyone else is participating and the changes in their health that they've noticed 2 weeks in.

was literally thinking about what alcohol to buy to pregame with tonight just before I read this

I've gone on short bouts of sobriety (2-3 weeks max) and do notice a bit of a reset. I don't do it on purpose, usually when I'm visiting family or something. I personally like to drink but I do notice that better physical feeling sensation you're referring to. I don't know if I'd ever do sober October specifically, but reducing binge drinking in general would be helpful. I generally don't drink during the week though, just a fuck ton when I go out with friends but lately we haven't been drinking as much since we're getting older.
