Squid Game
Great show on Netflix got me thinking:
1) would you ever participate in the game?
2) would you ever go as a spectator?
I don't think I'd participate or spectate, although I'd want to be invited to watch. But, on the other hand, morbid curiosity might get the better of me. Plus, I know I'd be good at the games.
Your thoughts?
i hope you turn into a squid, b itch
Everyone thinks they will be good at the games. That might be true but it’s a whole different ball game when you hear that gunshot and see that first body drop. You have no idea how you will react and one movement (first game) ends it for you. Easy to talk the talk, when shots start firing, most people do what most did in the first game. Panic and die. Obviously people can handle and get the job done but it’s a small percentage in my opinion.
Um.. I’d say most people know they’d be complete shit at that game. 1 round, sure.. 6 rounds? Fuck no
Agreed. Especially game 5. Where it comes down to luck. No one knew what numbers mean then play a game where it’s all probability and out of your hands.
I thought the show was okay, not great (although to be fair i binged the whole thing so clearly something kept me interested).
A few problems i had with it:
-one dimensional characters (eg. the gangster and his minions)
-that loud woman, she has to be one of the most annoying characters ive seen in a show in a long time.
-storylines that seemed to go nowhere (the police investigation, his brother etc).
Regarding your questions: would i compete? a 1/500 ish chance to win $40m usd? and the alternative is death, no way! An expected value of 80k for my life? Makes zero sense. There's a reason they had to target very vulnerable people.
Would i spectate? if i ignore the morality of it, a lot of it didn't even seem that fun to watch... the caramel carving, the marble games in particular would be very boring to watch.
Bruv, what do you think spectating means?
Scenario under which I spectate: If something were to happen to my family and I lose my last strand of humanity, go back to drinkin' and druggin', go back to criminal activities, don't get caught this time, become some big time criminal, get back into real estate with my criminal profits and do it really big this time, rinse & repeat for like 30 years... Bing bang boom lots of money, no soul, shady connections. I'd do it then.
Scenario under which I'd participate: I'm terminally ill and my family for some reason needs more money than my substantial life insurance payout. Even then... that life insurance money is a given. I'd probably lose the game though. Or I owe a bunch of money and they're threatening to come after my family if I don't come up with it. Even then though, I'd just skip town. I'm not banking winning some stupid game. And I also don't gamble and do live below my means, so I don't see how that would happen...
What was the deal with the brother though? That was never explained. I wonder what those employees are making and how they recruit them. Very 'workers who built the pyramids then all got got' vibes. No thanks on that job
You would certainly die. All you needed to know was how many winners there were the year before. You would have to know that death was a certainty outside of the game to continue playing. The gangers motivation for playing was probably the most realistic. Game 1 was pretty easy but the other ones were so much up to chance.
They should have voted to skip the bridge game though. They could have tried tying shoes together with a shirt and testing the glass but who knows if the gamemakers would have allowed it.
Does anyone think that even the greatest tug of war strategy with the 3 weak ladies and 1 old man could have actually won against 10 men in real life? I know nothing about how much strategy could compensate for that kind of strength disparity.
Literally nobody would survive the glass game. Think about what percentage of people know how to analyze glass like that: probably far less than 1% of the general population. Also, likelihood of dying in games prior to that are stupid high.
