a) How would you suggest getting more information about the profession and the industry? Are there any must see websites on a daily basis? b) In terms of reading, I'm completely new to commodities and not sure which one I'd like to read more about. Do you know any good books as introductions to the industry? c) What made you choose Energy trading over other professions? d) Traders are known to burn out super early. Is this also the case with Energy traders? e) Finally, what are some top firms I should look at for SA positions that you think would give me great exposure to the industry?

Hope this helps: Check out Platts stuff. Set up a Google Alert b/c it's free. Search EIA's website, NOAA-NHC. Some general energy sites/blogs: Chron.com NewsWatch: Energy, FT Energy Source, Rigzone.com, Risk.net commodities, INO.com, Platts "The Barrel", Bloomberg. Check out presentations from conferences: GasMart.com, LDC Forum, CERAWeek, etc. For nat gas, research pipelines, storage co's, big producers/marketers. Google NGI.com "top gas marketers".
Good intro book is Energy Trading and Investing by Davis Edwards. Current and comprehensive.

EIA for a general outlook, commentary is weak sauce. maybe ftenergysource.com for some general industry trends. as monty said, you have to show them the money to get some in depth research.

Fletcher Sturms' Trading Natural Gas for that industry. I'm lost on the other stuff.
c) What made you choose Energy trading over other professions?
I can be an alcoholic on the reg, more fundamental market, more arb ops, general absurd personalities in the business.
d) Traders are known to burn out super early. Is this also the case with Energy traders?
Don't know about this been working for two months. Most of my desk is in their 30s and 40s. Can't imagine traders burning out faster than bankers. Every one of my banking buddies hates his life.
