Struck by health issue - plans disrupted

Hello monkeys,

Created a new account because quite personal.

So I just finished my undergrad and would commence a T1 Mfin in Europe in about 2 weeks, but I just now suffered a serious condition, think heart attack (non-lifestyle related, just bad luck).

The recovery process would severely reduce what I get out of the mfin so I deferred it. What I am turning to you guys for is any wisdom on:

  • What to do this year – I’ll be able to work later on, but I am stressed out as I actually find myself unemployed and in a strange position, obviously having missed the recruitment cycle leading up to the fall/winter. I have a decent resume and I’ll network relentlessly if that’s necessary. But how should I approach it and what should I go for? Look for FT at smaller firms, perhaps not saying I have the Mfin offer standing? Should I include the incoming Mfin on resume for OCs and summers? Been mostly into IB, but would be interested in anything with good career prospects.

  • Do I explain my situation (health issue incl) in the first point of contact or is it something I should wait disclosing? With a high likelihood, this won’t pose any problems to my ability to work after the recovery period. This might be difficult to convince an employer of in a first cl/phone call though and be seen as a red flag?

  • On a more personal note, does anyone have experience of how to deal with such interruptions: almost already depressed from watching everyone else fly on.

Many thanks

I honestly think you should just go through with your Mfin, it'll be less stressful than employment rn and even if you don't think you'll get everything you could have out of it, you'll

still have a great degree that basically guarantees future employment.

Also, health discrimination is usually illegal, except for purely physical positions.
