The City, An Analyst Tale
Beep beep "shoot" I say to myself.
I'm late.
I slowly roll out of my bed and stumble onto my feet. It's currently 8am and I have one hour to make it into the office. I jump into my clothes, brush my teeth, eat a cup of Chobani yogurt and walk down the stairs of my apartment complex in Murray Hill.
It's been a month since I started as an analyst at a BB in you guessed it, New York freaking city. The city of dreams so they called it. Or at least that's what they wanted you to believe. More like the city of massive rats, vomit on the sidewalk, and the random Spider-Man sitting next to you in the MTA. I wouldn't have it any other way because in this city you either make it or you make it.
I reach the end of the stairs and open the door to the outside world. People of all different races, professions, and ideas are walking past you but you only have one objective this morning. Make it to the office on time and in one piece. You start speed walking northwest to make it to midtown. Around you thousands of people are doing the same thing. All commuting to the same place every day like a daily migration. All with one goal, to make the world go around.
"God" you say to yourself. Just 5 more minutes of walking. You think of all the hard work you put in to get to this point from high school to college to now. All of that work to make this daily migration. "Is this all what life is" you say to yourself. You pondering this for a second while walking.
You stop walking. You're standing alone. In a sea of people.
You look up into the skyline and see the sunrise.
End.
You look up into the skyline and see the sunrise.
Then you look down, and see two homeless men shooting needles into their arm while their buddy shits on a tree.
Life is good.
