Not just vets, they're former enlisted. Which is a far cry from almost anyone else who is former military and has run for P/VP anytime recently.
Not that Americans actually care, as much as they like to say they do and mouth "thank you for your service" every time they meet someone remotely connected to the military. The last actual vet to get elected as POTUS was Bush Sr. in '88. Since then, America has chosen:
1992: Draft dodger Bill Clinton, over WW2 vet George HW Bush
1996: Draft dodger Bill Clinton, over WW2 vet Bob Dole
2000: Draft dodger George W Bush, over Vietnam vet Al Gore
2004: Draft dodger George W Bush, over Vietnam vet John Kerry
2008: Too young to have been a draft dodger but still non-vet Barack Obama, over Vietnam vet and POW war hero John McCain
The problem is that being a vet doesn't necessarily make you a good military leader. It often makes people too anti-war or too pro-war.
For example, "war hero" John McCain was straight up bloodthirsty. From your list above, he was probably the biggest danger to the lives of American soldiers and our national security. There was not a war out there that McCain did not want to fight. Absolutely terrible.
Kamala is polling well because it’s just a wave of enthusiasm that the Dems hasn’t had the chance to express since their initial nominee was a sure-fire loser. I think she’ll regress closer to her actual mean in the coming weeks and Trump is probably still the favorite.
Hilarious watching Dems try to pander to middle class blue collar folk after abandoning them for decades. Also funny watching Harris flip on every position of substance to what battleground states want (after flipping to many far left ideas only 4yrs earlier). What a fraud
Will come back to this with my thoughts after I've done more reading, but first impression is wow the anti-Semitism won out against Shapiro.

How is such a massive, unfounded leap your first impression? The guy was a total liability. Having a VP candidate with sexual harassment allegations hanging over the head of his righthand man is pure stupidity, especially given the D platform is making a concerted push to appeal to women.

The allegations weren't against him though...? It's pretty easy to dump a staffer. The thought that that alone would enough to tank a campaign when Biden literally had Tara Reade and still won doesn't make any sense. Why would the D platform need to make a concerted push to appeal to women? They already have them, it's a no contest for almost every female demographic except for married white women. Are you saying they're not confident they can win their own base anymore? Why double down on a state that's hard blue with a candidate that's the polar opposite of what moderates would want to see when you need to push swing states and win independents to actually have a chance?

And naturally, popular Governor Josh Shapiro, who came in second for the VP slot
Additionally, 10 Jews are in the Senate. Not one is a Republican. 27 Jews are in the House. Only 2 are Republicans.
But yeah, “Democrats hate Jews” is definitely the analysis here.
For everyone else not suffering from right wing media brain rot, the reporting is more or less that Walz did better in the interview. Shapiro seems to have been more interested in the top job, and he’ll almost certainly run for it one day, whereas Walz came in content for the #2 spot.
I didn't say the Democratic party in its entirety was anti-Semitic, I said that the anti-Semitism in the party won against Shapiro. It doesn't matter how many Jews in Congress are Democrats, it doesn't change the fact there's rampant anti-Semitism growing in the party. That's what happen when you import Muslims making them out to be the victim in every skirmish with Western powers and embrace collegiate protests that target Jewish students, denying them access to facilities and chanting "death to Jews" in broad daylight on campuses nationwide. You can't pretend otherwise because there's video all over social media of it posted by the students themselves, and two of the most prominent university Presidents in the country were forced to resign over it. There was literally an open letter to the Harris campaign that cited Shapiro's Zionism and pro-Israel politics as problematic, so much so that he had to publicly apologize for them. But you keep the delusion going, it's all you've got anymore.

Had the same impression. Very credible rumors that big donors/strategists were telling her in the final hours that Shapiro is "a liability on Gaza" which of course is their political speak for the fact that he's Jewish.
Their hope is that not choosing Shapiro will reduce the amount of embarrassing protests by the Hamas wing of the party. I hope they show up and protest anyhow, so that the lunacy of the left can be put on full display.
He is a safe VP candidate that will cause no harm, which is a good thing. On the plus side, he is a vet who can relate well to rural America and genuinely seems like a good guy. The down side here is that I do not think he can turn swing states blue, which is what the dems need. He also plays very old even though he is only 60. I am note sure if this is good or bad.
With that said, Shapiro would have been a better choice because he would give PA to the dems. If you watched his speech, he acts more like a leader/POTUS than a VP. Shapiro might have had a different vision of the role of VP than Harris's view of the role. Shapiro is a rising star in the dem party, which might have worked against him.
He has little in common with rural voters outside of his own state, which is one of the most far left states in the country if not outright #1 in that category. Anyone who says things like this just highlights their own ignorance on the subject matter.
his own state, which is one of the most far left states in the country if not outright #1 in that category.
I’m not sure I’d ever choose to live there, but by all accounts Minnesota is a top state when it comes to business, personal incomes, happiness, and quality of life. You’re not exactly using “far left” as a negative here.
Regardless, the label isn’t even accurate. Look at the makeup of the two state houses.

He grew up in small towns, worked on farms during summers, was a high school teacher, was in the military and likes to hunt. That sounds pretty rural to me
I'm going to parrot that he's a 'safe' candidate that's deigned to win the middle-america vote. He's also very tough to hate. He hunts, but is pro background checks. He's a veteran, and achieved that perfect political level of advancing to a low-level leadership role where he doesn't make big decisions. He's a high-school social studies teacher who's been married to his (first) wife for 30 years. He coached the football team and chaired the gay-straight alliance.
Politically, his house career was very bipartisan and moderate. As a governor, he had a pretty successful run, with his signature achievement being universal free school lunches. His most significant veto was a bill to increase Uber driver salaries. (a pretty pro-business veto, IMO) Minnesota is also considered one of the most pro-business states right now.
As a vibe he extrudes "dad-joke energy." although he vibes as older than his age of 60. VP is a pretty pointless position, but he's basically the perfect white-bread candidate for it. He has a lot of that responsible adult/compassionate conservative vibe that the GOP pushed hard pre-Trump. I also think that the current angle a lot of the republican talking heads are pushing calling him a 'radical socialist' isn't going to work. It's so easy to take that, tie it to free school lunches and throw it back in their faces.

I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
The issue is going to be his policy views, they don't align outside of his home state with the target voters. He comes from one of the most left leaning states in the nation. His voting record isn't relevant in congress because he was basically a nobody. The over the target attacks will come from the political positions of Minnesota as a whole.

I'm trying to substantiate your statements. For he political lean of MN the best I found was this: https://news.gallup.com/poll/247016/conservatives-greatly-outnumber-lib… which has MN 2 points less conservative than average based on voter self identification, (+7 to 'conservative' vs. +9 nationally) and 16th most liberal if we're ranking (remember, he size of some of the big liberal states skew where you are in the ranking vs. national average) that's not quite perfectly middle of the road, but it seems pretty close to me.

I dont get the choice, Minnesota is not a swing state. Kamala already is being attacked with reason that she is a leftwing radical. This guy is also a radical leftwinger , let BLM terrorize Minneapolis , supports sanctuary cities, free healthcare for illegals, climate change fanatic (Environmental policies: He committed to 100 percent clean energy by 2040 in Minnesota), crazy trans children policies.
I would think that the democrats would understand by now that the radical woke open border policies are not popular, even within liberal circles.
Oh stop it. In the American political context, he’s about as centrist as it gets. More importantly for elections, his “vibes” are even more straight down the line. You’re going to be hard pressed to convince America that this dude is a “radical leftist.”
Doesn't matter, Trump / Vance got my vote weeks ago.
Great, I think many people are already decided, but what do you think this does for the potential outcomes of the election? It's going to affect business winners and losers. I'd love to invest based on what I want to happen, but the way to make money is to accurately handicap the results. (i.e. payouts in the energy sector may be highly affected by the outcomes here) I hope we can be adults and try to handicap outcomes.
The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets.

He quit the National Guard when his unit’s ticket got punched to go down range. He had been in for 24 years as a reservist so no question he paid his dues but for a 24 year service member and highest ranked NCO to quit on his unit as they’re deploying is kinda unfathomable. Guys will delay retirement, put off moves, voluntarily cause family strife, etc to be with their unit so this is going to rub vets in particular the wrong way. Not that it’ll matter to most voters though.
What will matter is that he’s pretty far left (I don’t care about his pre-2018 voting, his record as governor isn’t nearly as moderate) and that his state was burning in 2020 while he just sat back (probably not that clear cut but that’ll be the story). The fact that he’s a clean cut, Midwest white dude will help but picking the VP from a very blue state is a poor choice when you’ve got Shapiro as a legit option.
They should’ve picked Shapiro but he’s Jewish. You can believe whatever you want and act like that’s not why but he’s been an outspoken supporter of Israel and that plus him being a moderate are why they didn’t pick him. Harris has to win PA, WI, AND MI to get to 270 and if she picked Shapiro then she’d be pretty much guaranteed to lose MI (while guaranteed to win PA). Now she has to fight even harder for PA and hope that BLM running ragged over Minneapolis isn’t a big issue for WI/MI voters.

I do not think being Jewish is the reason for not being selected. The main reason why Antisemitism is on the rise in the US is Israel's war with Gaza. Unfortunately, even some smart people in the US, hold US Jews responsible for the war in Gaza, which is absurd. He is a conservative Jew, so he is more pro Israel than other Jews. With that said, I think the main reason he did not get selected is a difference of view on the role of a VP. While I was supportive of Shapiro as VP, looking back on it, I can't see him in a passive and public relations oriented role. His skill set is a better fit for POTUS.
He quit the National Guard when his unit’s ticket got punched to go down range. He retired in May 2005 (after having submitted paperwork months in advance, in part to run for Congress).
His unit received alert orders in July 2005.
His unit deployed in March of 2006.
Arguing that the right thing to do would be to pull his papers and “cause family strife” is pretty weird.
They told us Hilary would stomp Trump and then crazy won.
After the assassination attempt, i unfortunately don’t think Trump will lose. I don’t care how unhinged his tweets get and what bizarre stuff he keeps saying on TV, i think there is no way he loses.
Political candidates are so underwhelming sometimes. Imagine if any of these clowns even applied for a job where you work, let alone the most important role in the world lol...
It's weird too b/c I feel like dems have access to far more impressive people like Bloomberg who would probably run if they asked. But I guess the avg room temp IQ voter doesn't really care if someone has a brain or not, just that they are "relatable" lol
It's weird too b/c I feel like dems have access to far more impressive people like Bloomberg who would probably run if they asked.
Bloomberg ran in 2020 and embarrassed himself. He got utterly destroyed by Elizabeth Warren of all people, on national TV.
That aside, I’m not sure any of these four people have backgrounds that are that incompatible with “real life” jobs. I’ll try to be as even handed here as I can given my obvious biases, but:
Kamala Harris went to law school, was elected SF DA, was elected CA AG, was elected CA Senator, and then was elected VP.
Donald Trump went to Penn for undergrad, took over and dramatically expanded his father’s real estate business, and became famous on TV, and won the most underdog race for the US Presidency in generations.
Tim Walz served in the military, worked as a school teacher and state-title winning football coach, was elected to Congress, and then was elected MN Governor
JD Vance served in the military, went to law school at Yale, wrote a very popular book, and then was elected OH Senator
Are any of these resumes particularly unimpressive?

Yes they are all unimpressive compared to some of the people that exist in the United States, but your point and mine, I don't think those people are electable per se.
Bloomberg tried to run four years ago and they ran him out of the room immediately for being a member of an untouchable group (billionaires in his case, although if he wasn't a billionaire I'm sure his Jewish background would have also disqualified him).
The Dems are all about labels. You're not an individual. You are the sum total of your skin color, gender, ethnic heritage and social class.
you would think WSO of all places would unite against an actual socialist.
I’m sure they would, if Tim Walz was an actual socialist. Of course, he isn’t, and is in fact governor of one of the best states in the country for business, so here we are.
It is so predictably boring to call every Democrat a “socialist,” “a radical leftist,” or a “communist.” It has, long ago, lost all meaning or impact.
I’m sure they would, if Tim Walz was an actual socialist. Of course, he isn’t, and is in fact governor of one of the best states in the country for business, so here we are.

I think the similarities between Walz and Vance are interesting. Both veterans from the midwest, and I believe both are from blue-collar families (?).
Feels like both sides are trying to shore up that blue-collar heartland vote.

He doesn’t hate or want to control women, so democrats have my vote this time around.
Once republicans stop with the weirdo shit, and run youngkin in 2028, then I’ll switch back
Everyone throwing MS is single and hasn’t had a girlfriend since middle school. Stay mad.
Try having an original thought for once in your life instead of regurgitating what cable news has on repeat across every liberal channel lmao
You saying this to a fellow Republican is hilarious.
MAGA is totally not a cult though!
Will come back to this with my thoughts after I've done more reading, but first impression is wow the anti-Semitism won out against Shapiro.

There is a rising trend of anti-Semitism in the democrat voter base. To act like that isn't reality is just delusional.

With that said, I think the main reason he did not get selected is a difference of view on the role of a VP. While I was supportive of Shapiro as VP, looking back on it, I can't see him in a passive and public relations oriented role. His skill set is a better fit for POTUS.
He retired in May 2005 (after having submitted paperwork months in advance, in part to run for Congress).
His unit received alert orders in July 2005.
His unit deployed in March of 2006.
Arguing that the right thing to do would be to pull his papers and “cause family strife” is pretty weird.
I never trust the polls.
Are any of these resumes particularly unimpressive?
Yes they are all unimpressive compared to some of the people that exist in the United States, but your point and mine, I don't think those people are electable per se.
Bloomberg tried to run four years ago and they ran him out of the room immediately for being a member of an untouchable group (billionaires in his case, although if he wasn't a billionaire I'm sure his Jewish background would have also disqualified him).
The Dems are all about labels. You're not an individual. You are the sum total of your skin color, gender, ethnic heritage and social class.
Hillary's endorsement of Tim Walz was weird.

Certainly looks like the right-wing criticism of Walz providing free tampons to students is what is weird here, not her tweet in support of him.
Be normal.
Putting them in the boys bathroom seems awfully weird. But I'm one of those crazy people who thinks boys don't get periods.
you would think WSO of all places would unite against an actual socialist.
