Trust Distribution Strategies - Resources?

I have an irrevocable trust which I am both trustee and sole beneficiary of, and am able to make discretionary distributions to myself from.  The investment side of managing the trust has been very simple for me, as I understand portfolio management and have set up a simple index fund portfolio.  However, I am having trouble understanding the strategies behind when and how to make distributions, for example the tax consequences of taking a large distribution in one calendar year vs. splitting it between two, or how distributions will impact my AGI and therefore impact things such as private health insurance premiums.

Does anybody know of good resources to learn about these more advanced trust strategies?  Are there are good books to read?

You can do it too- minus the portfolio management experience. It'll cost a few thousand dollars to set up but there's no income minimum to set up a trust. You just have to be able to afford it, or be willing to pay the associated fees for the benefits that the trust provides.
