I'm going to go with this guy is probably going the better route in life.

He could either slave away at UBS making a 'good' salary with insane hours. Orrrrr he could do something that he loves, and make more (assuming that this new opportunity is at least CHL level or something).

Hell, I'd do the same thing he did even if it was for an associate level position (depending on the level of hockey I'd be playing at)

i would kill to have this dilemma. Chances are he's much more passionate about hockey than he is about banking, so why not. all he has to lose is a job, and those are replaceable. An opportunity to make a dream become a reality (in this case, a profession in hockey) should never be passed up. ever.

Also to delve into this further... If you had two applicants for an analyst position, which one do you think would be able to push through grunt work and work crazy hours easier... The recent college graduate, or the college graduate with some years of professional hockey experience?

probably the recent grad, but it's really not a determining factor...

exactly. playing a professional sport not only says a lot about a persons work ethic and determination, but also creates for a much more interesting back story. Fuck, i'd love to work with an ex hockey player seeing as i've grown up around the sport.
