Vaccine
In the coming months, should businesses require their customers to be vaccinated?
Let’s assume we get to through the first phase of vaccine distribution without any hiccups. Assuming ~75% of the population should be vaccinated in order for there to be any tangible impact on public health, is it right for US businesses to require employees and even customers to be vaccinated?
IATA & airlines will most likely require passengers to be vaccinated.
Not sure if others would do the same. Would employers be able to ask staff to do the same?
I believe legally it boils down to business necessity.
Hell no. Ur more likely to get lasting effects from the vaccine then u r to get covid LOL. Here in TX, we have gone about our lives like nothing has changed. Still shake hands, no masks, etc. Few of my friends have got the virus, sick for a couple days and then fine. It’s an overplayed flu, just hoping the vaccine let’s us live again.
This actually might be the most boneheaded thing I’ve read on this entire website
This might be the most brainwashed thing I’ve read on this website. 99.97%- the forbidden number (:
They are no lasting effects. Wtf are you talking about? Every Dr. out there who has spoken publicly on this topic (not to mention my own) has explained that long-term side effects, if any, would have shown up during clinical trials. I don’t think you understand how vaccines work. Are you college educated? Right now you sound like a brainwashed Trumper with no education beyond HS.
A friend of mine is a pharmacist and said he'll probably get vaccinated next week. Will see what happens.
The expectation seems to be that vaccines will be required in airplanes and large events (stadiums, concerts, movies, conventions). This should be suitable enough to convince a tipping-point level of people; there are lots of folks that are rightly concerned with potential side effects, or just belligerently anti-vac, but these people also tend to have a huge overlap with people that want to go out and do stuff. If a vaccine is mandatory for airplanes and large events this hopefully will convince enough people.
If airplanes/large events doesn't convince enough people to hit a tipping point than they will likely make it mandatory in the whole entertainment / not necessary sector (bars, restaurants, bowling, etc). I dont think conventional retail / grocery / truly necessary places will ever need to make vaccines mandatory, but you never know.
Nothing is rational about anything relating to Covid.
*With limited quantities of vaccine*, we are racing to vaccinate the elderly. For example, the UK's second vaccine recipient was 98. That tells you everything that you need to know about the world's insane, irrational response to Covid the last year. In a rational world, we never would have destroyed the global economy to "save" the lives of people who are over the age of life expectancy. In a rational world, you might behave the way we've behaved if the infection mortality rate were 5.5% for people under, say, 60. But Covid is so non-lethal to younger people that we are using our *limited supply* of vaccine to vaccinate people who, statistically, are likely to die any day now of [insert the cause].
As for me, I rarely get a vaccine because I'm healthy and have a robust immune system. But because an irrational fear of Covid has gripped the world, I will get the vaccine and I encourage others to get it so that we can move on with our damn lives. Achieving herd immunity is the only way the psychotic, petty tyrants will ever release their iron grip over our basic liberty.
Oh stfu. There are people in the world who don't have food/water and you're bitching about your "liberty"? Which, by the way, doesn't make sense, because I live on the east coast and I get delivery from my favorite local restaurants, walk my dog at the park, grabbed coffee with some friends earlier this month, etc. Sure, no indoor dining, bar hopping, or strip clubs, but on the flip side, I'm saving a shit ton of $$$. We're not "locked down" by any means.
Also, please explain why ICU capacity is at 85%+ mainly due to COVID? My SO is a nurse btw. Most patients are relatively young to middle aged, not "over the lifespan" people. Mortality rate is down because we have a better grasp on the disease. PPE is more available.
Only reason the situation isn't worse is because people and organizations are still trying to take basic precautions. Most professionals are WFH. Many people are wearing masks/social distancing.
For a moment, I thought all the hype was political, but now that Trump has clearly lost, what's the point of continuing this "charade"?
Yes, liberty. When the government is destroying the livelihood of tens of millions of people (there are 10 million fewer jobs today than pre-Covid), criminalizing (literally arresting people for) exercising constitutional rights to peaceably assemble, stripping children of their access to education, enforcing curfews (as if we lived under martial law), we are talking about fundamental civil liberties being denied in the name of a disease that kills overwhelmingly people who are near, at, or past life expectancy (which is factually, provably true--your significant others' observations are completely without scientific merit). Worst of all, many of the measures being implemented--kicking toddlers off planes for not wearing a mask, alcohol sales stop after 10 pm but food sales are fine, midnight to 5 am curfews, shuttering public schools, closing outdoor dining, keeping open Wal-Mart while shutting down small retailers, shutting down indoor dining while allowing Amazon to keep its employee cafeterias open--are completely unscientific; they serve no purpose other than to make people miserable. Arbitrary rulemaking and arbitrary enforcement of the law are fundamental behaviors of tyrants.
Frankly, people like you who have clapped like seals as petty tyrants arbitrarily destroy the livelihoods of their constituents while ignoring their own rules makes me sick. You are the problem. You represent a new American who is terrified of his own shadow and is willing to destroy the lives of tens of millions of people for the false sense of safety. The people who carved out this nation are turning over in their grave that such effeminate men like you lead our nation into ruin.
