I realized I need to make $40k to cover tuition while taking a full load of classes. I've got money saved up from work but nowhere near that amount. What can I do in a few months to make that kind of $, short of dealing or doing something grossly illegal...

high stakes poker, sports gambling... or you can be a bookie. Not sure if that constitutes grossly illegal in your mind but you can make a ton of money as a bookie on a college campus. not advocating, just throwing out options
And take out a loan man, that's really your only viable option. Or take a semester or two off.

In case you're considering bookmaking, don't start without reading this book. It is the best book ever written on the subject, and basically gives you step by step instructions on how to be a successful bookie by someone who has actually done it. Very funny as well:

Transfer to a cheaper school? Or apply to scholarships? Or get financial aid? Or get grants? Or stop getting robbed?
I can't imagine a situation where tuition is $40k higher than what you have. It means you're probably doing something wrong.
That's not a single semester or year of tuition, it's my cumulative projected debt, including several discretionary expenses, hahaha
I'm also sitting on ~10 to 15k of cash right now if that broadens my horizons a little
40K is nothing for four years of school anymore, especially if you're tacking on extra loans for "discretionary expenses" so that you can go on SB every year and spend a ton of money at the bar every weekend to impress girls.
Instead of worrying about paying off your loans while in school why don't you use your free time to network, get excellent grades, have a good time and make sure you get a good job out of school to pay those loans off.
Just my thoughts take it or leave it.
I wouldn't be stressing too much then. I have way more debt than that lol.
Good ol America allows you to pay back stuff like that for $5 a month over the next 300 years.

Even 40k tuition for TWO years of school isn't that big of a deal these days. Just get loans, KICK ASS in school, get a great job, and pay the loans off. Student loans have always given good rates, take advantage of that. Don't use the cash if you don't have to. Keep that shit for when you leave school, something might happen, you may not get a job, and having that "rainy day money" will come in very handy.
