What are your thoughts on wall-to-wall carpet in an apartment?

Of the two apartment complexes I’ve lived in, both were all hardwood / tile excluding the bedroom and closet. I’m looking at a 1br/1ba to move to that’s around $1,950/m including all utilities and fees, but it has carpet everywhere but the kitchen and bathroom.

I would prefer hardwood, but a 1br in my area in a top apartment complex is around $2,400+ which is too much for me.

I think the carpet won’t be that bad of an issue. Will have to take my shoes off right when I walk in the door (is hardwood for around 3-4 feet), but I can live with that.

If I moved in, I plan on getting the carpets professionally cleaned. If any of you are knowledgeable about this please lmk. I’ve read that hot water extraction is the best way but that you need to make sure to dry it properly. Majority of companies I’ve seen don’t do this method anymore and instead rely more on chemicals and dry-cleaning, but this apparently isn’t as good at cleaning.

I’ll be moving to a hybrid schedule, so having my own apartment with no roommates is important to me. I don’t want to put my desk in my bedroom. Also, this unit is on the top floor, and that’s been a major thing for me as currently I have undesirable people living above me who stomp and shake my entire “luxury” apartment.

1) Is this a private owned unit or a commercially owned unit?

2) Definitely water extract (steam clean or whatever deep cleaning it is like that) that thing to get anything and everyhing up and out.

To answer the question: wall-to-wall carpet is gross. I had to grow up with carpeted bathrooms of all things...never again

What kind of psychopath puts carpet in a bathroom?!

Depends on floor plan and layout. If you walk into apartment and it’s immediately carpeted before making your way to kitchen/eating area, yeah can be a bit weird. If you open door into the kitchen/eatingarea (wood/tile/vinyl), then rest of apartment being carpet is perfectly fine. I personally prefer carpeted bedroom

But ultimately, carpet is easily replaceable if it gets dirty

It sounds like carpet is your only option due to cost.  The main issue is that carpet can be challenging to clean, especially compared to wood.  However, if you do not own the apartment and this is a temporary situation, then it should be okay. My first place as an adult had carpet and it was fine.  I ripped out all of my carpet recently and replaced it with wood, which is just lower maintenance
