What do you do post IB?

Hello fellow monkeys,

Laying in bed trying to figure out what I want to do 2-3 years from now when I ultimately get burnt out from IB. While thinking a interesting question came to mind that I don’t see much on here:

What do y’all do now (preferably something you actually enjoy)? How have you made the most out of life post-IB? And most importantly, are you happy?

Cheers

Ideally, get married and start a family.

Imagine you made tons of money in your career and could go on as many vacations as you wanted and go clubbing and golfing forever, after a 5-10 years that would get really boring after a while.

Having children is literally one of the most fulfilling things you can do, while helping the next generation.

If you want just fun things, maybe travel the world or go on adventures.

I believe it largely is, but in a day and age where PE is less attractive, I believe people are searching for alternatives (myself included).

PE associates have more stress and often more hostile work environments (with slightly less pay) than IB associates, all things equal.

You also likely will never have a carry event where you get to benefit from the “lucrative economics” of PE, with the escalated risk of funds blowing up / layoffs as firms are seeking creative ways to continue to produce good returns.

So yea - given the less rewarding, higher stress, self centered / hostile dynamic of PE, I believe many analysts are seeking rewarding / lucrative alternatives to the traditional 2+2 path.

Is the goal not two years of IB then PE/VC these days?

Well now that PE isn't a guaranteed way to millions of dollars with zero risk, all the IB bros are searching for the next momentary bubble that will pay them to skim off the rest of the economy
