What is pitching a deal really like?

I watched some scenes from big short were the guys are cussing left and right. Has there ever been such intense trade offs of such hostile language during a pitch? And if there is, is it something you can expect to see someday as an analyst? I really doubt it’s like that at all but it seems so fun to throw unfiltered passionate language like that when trying to convey a point. I just wanna hear from people who have done many deal experiences and kind of tell me what it’s like.

No thats just in the movies, at least i haven’t come across that. As an analyst, you’d typically just dial into the meeting unless its local but the VP-MD will do all the talking.

There are times where the meeting can get a bit heated if the client is challenging some of the assumptions but your VP-MD will hopefully know how to diffuse the situation.

Pitches aren’t typically like what you saw in the Big Short. But do I think that meeting/call was colorful in real life, yes. Ive met one of the guys portrayed there and the movie actually understated his abrasiveness. Can’t imagine he’d have much patience for Gosling’s character in real life.

can we distinguish between the type of pitch - 1) the pitch you are describing and 2) request for proposal (RFP) where you are basically submitting to the Sponsor an indicative financing proposal and terms and fees - which they may also be collecting from a list of other banks too. the way I think about it, you’re more or less walking them through your proposal and term sheet and assumptions /rationale and getting feedback on their initial thoughts.. any other types of pitches im missing?
