What’s happening in Ukraine is incredibly sad.

Ukraine gave up a large nuclear arsenal in 1994 with guarantees of safety from the US, UK, and Russia. Now, it has no support as it is being invaded by one of those supposed allies. Does anyone think Russia would even consider invading a country with nuclear weapons??

What's worse is that the death toll will likely be high. It's been reported that 10,000 automatic rifles have been given to citizens in what is commonly known as a poor military tactic that largely serves no purpose but increasing casualties, civilian casualties at that. Further, Ukraine's President announced compulsory enlistment and banned men aged 16-60 from leaving the country (woke leftists wya). I'm no one to judge Ukraine or their strategy and have no idea what kind of fear people are living with under these attacks and the threat of Russian control but the sad reality is that Ukraine's government needs to asses whether or not they can actually push back against Russian forces.

There is literally blood in the streets and a country being war-torn as we live and breathe. How does the world keep turning? In some ways this news is getting less coverage than Covid-19 and that just seems absurd to me.

No matter where you stand politically, please be thankful for your safety and that of your loved ones. Pray for Ukraine and take note of what is happening right now… this is history.

Disclaimer: I'm young, I don't remember any major war time very much even looking back to the "War on Terror" with the exception of a few events. Maybe I'm naive but this is actually just devastating for the country and citizens of Ukraine.

Bro why do all the Russia posts keep getting taken down by mods

wow ukraine are fucked. how are they going to win without a more diverse and inclusive draft? where are the latinx and girlboss queens when we need them the most?

You haven't seen a country being torn apart by war ? As in you didn't see Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Philippines, Ethiopia, etc ? Those conflicts just dont get the media coverage, but they are even more tragic.

You make a good point. From my knowledge all those conflicts had news coverage in the immediate but people and the media just stop caring. Maybe the better way to put it is that it’s the first time I can remember one developed nation invading another without provocation. I suppose another reason this stands out is that those others are largely civil war conflicts (not that that changes loss of lives).

Regardless, the fault is my lack of knowledge.

I feel sad for Ukrainians. They are the people who will actually suffer for the West’s absolutely terrible decisions. I’m also sure that Ukrainian leadership is pulling civilians into the conflict as a desperate way to get the West to help them more as they are essentially threatening to self-destruct over this. Ukraine has no chance of beating Russia so what is enlisting a bunch of 60 year olds with no combat training going to achieve? Nothing other than maybe making the west sadder for its situation so that maybe they help more.

But the saddest thing is they won’t. The west will do nothing. As I have said before, there is not a single man with balls left in western Europe. All they’ll do is tweet about it and then a few months after the conflict is done it will be business as usual. All of those innocent people will die all so that the west can get a new hashtag on twitter. In a sense it’s almost benevolent for Putin to absorb Ukraine into its sphere. At least once Ukraine is Russian, someone will care about it. Putin will probably protect his new province more than western countries ever protected themselves. Putin will probably just conquer new territories every 5 years while the west does nothing. Western Europe is definitely a dying culture. They do nothing because they hate themselves and their history. And Putin is just some dude. Literally just some KGB agent who once read a book about the Russian Empire and now he cares more about the history of Russia than any European cares about their own history.

Western Europe is a fucking shithole. Filled with weak useless old men. Now more than ever do I want Europe to just be carved up between China, Russia and the U.S. so that we can finally end European history. What a failed people.

Why are we blaming this on the West?  I think it is reasonable for the nuclear armed West to want to avoid open conflict with another nuclear power, especially since this invasion has shown that Putin is willing to start the first big conventional war in Europe since WW2.  Who knows what else he could do?

It is not benevolent at all for Putin to absorb Ukraine.  Frankly, Ukraine is better off with countries that don't bomb the shit out of them.  Most of this "security" will be against Ukrainians who don't support Putin's new regime, assuming he wins.  Look what happened in Syria, to crush the rebels and terrorists Putin and Assad just carpet bombed the damn place killing orders of magnitudes more than even ISIS.

syriadeaths

This is some next level Putin bootlicking, blaming people who don't want a nuclear war instead of the actual invaders.

I blame the west because Ukraine used to have a government aligned with Russia until the 2014 revolution (widely supported by the west) in which Ukraine decisively showed the world that it intended to become part of the EU's sphere of influence. And what has happened since then? Nothing. Ukraine is like a forgotten province. I don't agree with decisions that end up with the massacre of thousands of people, but Putin rightfully spotted this weakness and decided to be the first man to make a move and forcefully put Ukraine back into its sphere of influence. It's not like NATO or the EU have any troops in there to stop him. It's almost like the EU and NATO never cared at all...

What I see is that the west used Ukraine as a way to openly mock Russia. They probably never intend to actually accept Ukraine into NATO but still they openly consider it. And what is Russia supposed to do? In a world where Ukraine did join NATO then immediately NATO could claim that Crimea is Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory and therefore a full-scale obliteration of Russia would be due by NATO's mandates. Was Russia supposed to just wait and see if this ever became a reality? Honestly, even if it's a low probability event, Russia is right to act before this scenario actually becomes a reality. Instead, in my opinion, if the west never intended to put any weight behind Ukraine, it should have never radically pulled it into its sphere of influence. It just feels like the west has half-measures for everything. They never 100% pull through on anything. They just stumble around like the dead civilization they are. And now Putin called their bluff. And now they are outraged on twitter. Probably circle-jerking about who can be more progressive on this issue. But that's all they will do. Outrage on twitter.

By the way, I'm not licking Putin's boots. Show me one European leader who would be willing to invade other countries to protect their territorial integrity and I'll applaud him to. This is real life, not twitter. The price of fucking up is having your country bombed and people genocided, not getting ratio'd. In war I value action and god damn is Putin taking action. If Putin actually carries a bloody genocide then I wish that the west will do something to actually stop him. But is the west doing anything about the genocides openly happening in China? The west will do nothing. Once again. Except maybe a hashtag.

Decline of Europeans is honestly just so sad. They've had so many great empires (Rome, Britain, Germans, Spanish, etc) and now the place is a joke

Sadly the U.S. is following on its heels, it's now a society filled with weak men who have panic attacks when they hear about Ukraine being invaded and can't stand for their 'safe space' to be violated with alternative viewpoints. It's a downhill ride for the West in general. The East is rising

At the end of the day, a sovereign nation cannot trust any nation aside from itself. They were foolish to give up nuclear capabilities in 1994 and are paying the price now

Totally sucks for the people I agree, but the leadership in Ukraine has always been terrible
