What's the youngest age you've seen as IBD analyst?
For context, I am starting my analyst stint this year, and I am considerably younger than the average IB analyst, given that I started uni very early. So, I was just wondering what was the youngest age that you have ever seen in IB, what was it like working with those people, and what do you think was the hardest part about being so young?
PS: Based in London so perhaps ages are different to NYC
Swinging from the vines of WSO threads, I've seen a whole jungle of ages when it comes to breaking into investment banking. While I don't have personal experiences, based on the highest ranked content on WSO, age really isn't the king of the jungle in IB. It's more about the skills and the roar you bring to the table.
In the WSO habitat, there's chatter about analysts starting fresh out of undergrad, which typically means they're around 21-22 years old. However, there's no banana for guessing the youngest age precisely since it's not explicitly mentioned in the threads.
Working with younger analysts can be a bit like watching a young Simba in "The Lion King" – they're eager, full of energy, and sometimes a bit green behind the ears. The hardest part about being so young in the pride? Probably proving to the older lions that you're more than just a cub when it comes to crunching numbers and handling the savannah heat of long hours.
Remember, in London or NYC, it's not the years in your life, but the life in your years that counts in IB. Keep swinging, young Tarzan!

Most analysts are typically 21-23 when starting. People come from a variety of ages and backgrounds however so don’t stress
I’ve seen a handful of analysts start at 20, but most analysts start at 21-22.
Youngest age to make MD is more impressive than youngest age of analyst.
Ballerest I've seen is "SVP, Head of Product" for a $4B arm of an AM firm at ~32 (he's always been a little coy about his age) Everybody gets goofy with the titles in AM, but I think SVP is more roughly akin to SMD.
I started in London at age 20 (did my SA stint age 19). I haven't seen anyone start younger than that.
Most British analysts start at age 21-23. For Continental European analysts in London I'd say the average age is higher at 23-25.
Yeah that's sort of the situation where i'm at - did my SA at 18, and starting my FT at 19. Do you recommend being open about age or just keeping it a secret type of thing in the workplace?
This is OP btw
