what's your actual dream job?

if pay, status, work life balance, benefits etc didn't matter... what would you be doing?

i always have wanted to work on racecars.. if it wasn't for my inability to dedicate the time to theory and the math, i'd be happy figuring out the perfect air fuel ratios for TRC cars somewhere in the world lol.

also, would have a huge animal rescue.

landed in finance... maybe one day i'll get back on grid.

I would put more time into guitar and become a touring musician. As well as pursue interests in other art and creative fields.

But I also believe you can do any job you want as long as you’re comfortable with the lifestyle it offers you

I heard the CEO of the New York Philharmonic give a speech a while ago and her job might be the most realistic dream job of mine. I love the arts, and her role deals with not just the symphony but also with other fine arts around the world. She gets to travel for concert tours, listen to talented musicians, meet famous artists... and she also gets paid a very comfortable amount for it.

My other dream job would be owning a vineyard/winery in France or Italy. The views, the wine, the culture, amazing

Formula 1 and Rally car driver. Doing both would be a dream. I’m too big and haven’t devoted my life to driving- kinda late in the game for me unfortunately. Still plan on eventually buying a WRX and upgrading it to do hill climbs, but nothing professional

Being the GM of an NBA team is the dream. Putting together a team including a coach that fits together financially and on the court sounds like an amazing challenge. Being the one responsible for finding players whose different playing styles mesh well together and making sure all the players fit the coaching style. I really hope I get to do this one day.

Yes, please lawd. I was a D1 coach before going to REPE, have been trying to network my way into a position ever since.

NBA teams are similar to IB in that from the GMs that I've talked to each intern or entry level role has 3000+ applications, and that's to get on the ground floor where even M7 will get beat out by the 5000 collegiate athletes that aren't good enough to go pro so they try FO. On top of that you have to hope that you are latched onto a top FO because if you get unlucky and they clean out a FO and you haven't made a name for yourself, it's back to square one.

Yeah that was a good scene.

Ever since I was a kid I've dreamed of having no social life, working 100hr weeks, and editing powerpoints all day every day just to brag to my friends who work in nonprofits that they wasted their time in college and got a terrible job. Does their job pay for their Uber home at 2am?? See, non-profits suck. Dream job is definitely IB analyst at biggest sweatshop, think Moelis/Evercore/Child labor camps in China

Do it now man! Life’s too short to deal authority shit you don’t care for + in the places you’d do that kind of job you wouldn’t need that much to have a great life talking big house near the slopes.

Or at least set an objective money wise and then give it a shot.. if you think about when you retire it’ll never get done!

I've had the fun experience to meet a Russian oligarch. This Russian dude has his own private golf course somewhere near Moscow. Every time he required golf classes he would fly his Italian golf tutor from Firenze straight to Moscow in his private jet---cool job!

dream job would easily be a photographer/journalist for a travel magazine, or running a YouTube channel centered around travel. imagine making your living by visiting and documenting exotic locations around the world and engaging in all these different cultures and traditions. and on top of that the photography/writing would be an unreal creative outlet. honestly once I have the means I might start a travel vlog or something

hey! is it ok if i PM you about your friend's experience? that is actually something that i've legitimately been trying to work towards. it's one of my dream jobs since i was a kid and i've started finally being able to work towards it now that i have the money to spend on decent art education and art supplies.

Something with pyrotechnics. Can’t wait to retire and have super cool Fourth of July fireworks shows and stuff.

Not as cool as an F1 driver but being a Professor sounds cool. If you're at a good university you get paid a lot, work little, and meet a lot of interesting people.

was thinking that, especially for a higher level class where upperclassmen are actually interested instead of a boring weed out class

I mean my two biggest passions are cinema and video games. So I would love to be a writer or a director for movies, tv shows, and of course video games. Was thinking of becoming a video game developer a couple years back, took comp sci and physics courses in high school but found the actual work that goes into making video games very mundane (coding is boring in general in my opinion). I found finance way more interesting and I enjoy financial modelling to a degree (there are obviously some tedious work in modelling as well but I enjoy the work for the most part) so here we are. Although I have no actual professional experience in either field.

long only global equity fund manager

i just dont know if I’d be good at it lmao

edit: the dream would be retiring star fund manager - you still have input in the decision making and positions of the fund but u also have a bunch of money AND TIME to spend on charitable activities etc.

made new unrelated account - dont reply or message as i never use it.

popular music critic econ professor but I don't know if I have the abilities to come up with worthwhile research haha. would be nice helping out students however but it's not like I necessarily want to do either of those over finance/trading tho

I'd have more people killing for me than people trying to kill me. Also, based on Narcos, most go out with honorable deaths in action packed scenes. Could be worse

In no particular order, I've been intereted in the following things:

Food: * Cheesemonger/producer * High-end butcher * Restaurateur (have a friend that went to the Culinary Institute of America, we bounce a couple ideas around every so often)

Finance: * Retirement counselor/financial literacy for highschoolers/community * Infrastructure/real assets investment team at a pension fund for a cause I believe in (region or service members, etc.) * idk why but I've felt like doing something with Vanguard/Fidelity would be great, I get they're just large asset managers that aren't cutting edge or anything, but I like their missions of providing low cost investments to as many people as possible

Political service (scumbag realistically): * Congressman serving on a cool committee (e.g.: Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Transportation and Infrastructure) * Something at the UN (ECOSOC maybe) * Geopolitical strategy analyst (State Dept, CIA, etc.)

Random: * College professor * Urban planner and/or architect

being a DJ easily. going to every sick place around the world and making fire music. unreal lifestyle and I want it

Big time eSports gamer. Never had the time to dedicate enough time to gaming, but being paid to play my favourite video games would be pretty cool.

If not that, then I do have a soft spot for the third sector. Being Chairman of something like the Bill Gates Foundation (but ideally with my own money) or equivalent would be amazing as I can see people's lives improve from the actions that I take.

Basketball Coach or GM, two very different roles, but I feel I'd enjoy both. I'd continue in coaching if the pay wasn't absolute garbage. Like starting out is painful, and on top of that there is so much luck that goes along with everything working out and the team you support being successful.

I'm in my MBA, and I've talked to a bunch of GMs/Assistant GMs and my hope is that if I don't continue in REPE or capital markets that my basketball network comes through and I get hired by Sam Presti lol

My "dream jobs" have changes quite a bit over the years, but as it now stands, maybe any of the following: -Lighthouse operator who lives in his little lighthouse-house on the northern coast of New England -Firewatcher in a national park -Steel worker or coal miner like 50 years ago so I can understand how fucking great it was, according to my relatives, many of whom never actually even worked in the mines but still act like it was the best thing ever

And you'd meet a ton of interesting people. These shops tend to attract top-shelf musicians.

"23mich" I always thought being a US ambassador would be an interesting post. That said, I know very little about it other than perception gained from general media sources. Anyone have any knowledge or experience about it?

My mentor in college was the US ambassador to the Court of St. James. He had a pretty good story to the leadup of the Good Friday agreement. He went to Harvard Law school and his daughter got her JD/MBA there. Smart family. Extremely nice and smart and well connected.

He also served on the boards of several companies, including Morgan Stanley.

Without giving too much away, one of my relatives worked in the State Dept and came into contact with the ambassadors regularly. Depending on the relative importance of the country and the US's relation with them, it can be a very cushy job.

"VolatilitySmile" Whatever job Dan Bilzerian has.

He gets to hang around Haley Grice, so I'm definitely jealous of that.

He claims to be a high stakes poker player netting $50 million dollars, but I think he got like $100 mil from his dad and lost and spent $50 million, leaving him with $50 left to blow on guns, planes, and cars.

I think this would be a fun job too, but I don't have the best boxer nose or teeth. They seem susceptible to damage. Maybe teeth not so much in boxing (just muay thai), but nose definitely could be fucked up if a pro boxer.

"Lion99" A professional boxer - started boxing as a kid and still do it now, just not professionally. Had a 39-0 amateur record and had been selected to join the Olympics team back when I was a younger.

dude 39-0 is really legit - so you're Golden Gloves then or equivalent. Depending on your age, you could probably still go back in and compete. I have trained with pro boxers - some are older but still have that solid technique. You never lose that golden technique. You could still have a chance to go pro, but it would probably just be smaller fights for a few grand unless you took off. But, if you want to take off, definitely plan for it and train like a mofo.

I'm a lot better at Muay Thai than strict boxing. I find boxing to be incredibly strict and technical. I can get away with a whole lot more BS in Muay Thai than boxing. Also, I hate getting hit by hooks on the jaw in boxing and in Muay Thai they seem to be more visible. But really my legs are the real weapons and hands are just a distraction. I do quite like boxing on the inside though. My inside game is sharp and endless - I can go literally forever on hard body hooks.

I like taking good photographs of hot chicks or runway models. Would be a legit dream job. I only really find 10-20 chicks to be hot in the world right now though, so wouldn't like to photograph most.

I would definitely take photos of Kylie or Kendall. I like Kendall's body type better actually. She is a pretty standard runway model type. I don't like runway models too tall though, 5'11" is the highest I would date. Anything taller would be just for the photos.

When I meet Ms. Right though, she better be damn near a model. If shes gonna be around me all the time, I want some hot photos. Yes, I am very superficial. Pride and vanity snap at my spirituality.

Professor at a rich college with nerdy kids. You get paid to just talk about things you're passionate about while also convincing impressionable students that the thing you're interested in is actually really cool.

Not to get too sappy, but I also think it's awesome to inspire people into pursuing their own dreams and giving them the tools and knowledge to achieve them. Being a high school teacher at a school with high achieving but underprivileged kids would be incredibly fulfilling....but fuck there's no money in that.

Still interested in it actually, not sure if I'll ever bother picking it up or not.

I'm talking about lifestyle blogging with supercars on YT - something a bit like what the current bigger YouTubers do, e.g. Stradman. Now since I'm in(to) finance I could probably make it a hybrid channel of cars and finance, like a Graham Stephan - Stradman hybrid.

I think I can actually get here eventually, but it's a mix of:

  • Angel investing + advising startups
  • Trading my own account
  • side passions, probably something like marine life conservation and SCUBA diving
  • having flexibility to raise kids and be there for them for key events

Basically, I want to be pretty risk-on without having to be very time-on.
