The Library Genesis network suggested by famejranc is THE choice. Their files are clean, and it's rather difficult to put a viral payload in a PDF in the first place. If you're truly worried about getting a computer virus from a PDF file, you should disable Javascript execution in your PDF reader. It's very simple to do, and once that's done, there will be literally no way for the PDF file to even influence your computer.
I've read thousands of pages on Library Genesis. I love to download books and read them on my phone too.
* If you're ever looking for finance papers (academia), scihub is the way to go.
