Why do software engineers and finance folk have such different personalities?

Why do software engineer and finance folk have such different personalities? Fundamentally both are typically smart and driven people but the stereotype of a SWE is typically socially awkward nerd / dork types, meanwhile finance types are perceived as more polished and confident types. I would think it’s very similar people that go into either field. Any ideas?

SWE a bunch of c*cklords and subconsciously know finance is better. Here’s how you can tell:

SWE come to post cope on IB forums despite never having worked a day in their life in finance. People in finance don’t post on SWE forums or circlejerk to the thought of working in SWE.

My dad is in PE, I’m a SWE. Things I have observed: finance people are very well-rounded, they’re tall, good-looking, attractive, athletic, very good at presentations, and smart. SWEs in comparison are also smart, but they don’t have the other qualities that make them like-able. For example, some SWEs are obese and don’t like bathing. Some SWEs are extremely introvert and don’t talk to people. Some SWEs look like beta males although they have alpha brain, but guess what ? You don’t see the person’s brain via social interactions, you only see the way they look and the way they talk, and that’s where SWEs lose big time. The reason behind this is the standards of recruiting. During finance recruiting, you have to network like crazy to get an interview, so socially awkward people won’t even get interviews, they’re outta game from the very beginning. So finance recruiting is all about finding the smart people amongst attractive people — smart is bonus, attractive is MUST. In tech recruiting, well…. it’s all just leetcode. In theory, tech companies would hire a homeless guy who hasn’t bathed for 3 months if he’s good at leetcode 😅 And that was indeed what tech companies did during 2019-2021. So here we are, plenty of awkward dweebs in industry 😅

Ah as a prerequisite to working in finance, you must have been a male model

So your father is a Chad. Why did you not choose to pursue finance (in the traditional ib pe route), and instead opt to pursue SWE/quant?
