Advice on moving into Infra PE from Infra banking/credit at the VP level
Hey all, wanted to get your thoughts on my situation. Currently a VP at a bank where we invest in infra private credit in core+ and value add infra for our balance sheet. Prior to my current role, my previous experience has been mostly in project finance and financial advisory within the space. Wanted to get a sense of it was possible to make the switch to an infra PE or credit fund at my level. Seems like there's a lot of openings available even after the on-cycle for jr and sr associates, but not a lot of openings at the VP level. My assumption is most PE funds would fill such roles at VP+ from senior associates/VPs who are already on the buy-side. Is it a waste of time trying to make the switch given my situation?

In my experience infra shops are more flexible on background / career path given it’s a pretty small / niche industry and so the pool of good candidates is smaller. I have seen some later moves from IB to PE but obviously shop dependent and would have been much easier a couple years ago when the lateral market was on fire
