Buyside Recruiting Advice from an Industry Boutique

Hi all — hope you're doing well.

I'll be starting this summer at a middle-market, industry-focused boutique and wanted to get some guidance on how best to approach buyside recruiting. I’m at a target school and particularly interested in growth equity, though I’m open to other opportunities that align with my interests.

Given how competitive on-cycle recruiting is, I’m trying to think strategically about how to position myself early on. One area I’d appreciate specific advice on is how to approach headhunters — when and how to engage with them, and how to build those relationships effectively.

Any insights on timing, preparation, or best practices for standing out in the process would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
