Great Hill Partners Boston
Does anyone have any info on Great Hill Partners in Boston? Culture/Comp? Seems like they internally promote quite a bit but little information outside of their website

You're welcome.
Externally speaking, the culture seems pretty good and they've been crushing it lately. Good to deal with as either a seller to or advisor of.
I know you said you're externally speaking, but do you know who they use as a headhunter for associates?
Oxbridge
Have heard great things about culture - basically MM LBO PE pay but much better hours, few weekends.
Growth-equity firm that buys majority stakes once in a while. Strong player in payments, healthcare and e-commerce retail. Famous Wayfair and Bombas success stories. Likely a sourcing component to the job.
One of the best MM shops in Boston along with Charlesbank. Strong shop, good culture and from what I’ve heard quite strong fund returns as well. The interactions I’ve had with them are a bit dated at this point but with senior people there who would still be around.
Pretty different place from Charlesbank, which is a more pure buyout fund.
Great Hill operates more in the world of TA in Boston, but is smaller.
Yes, meant in terms of Boston funds/teams in that size, not strategy.
Anybody know what the deal is with their deadspin investment? Seems like it’s going to zero
Pretty small investment for them. $135mm TEV + Deadspin was one small portion of the entire Gizmodo purchase.
Since they are a growth equity fund, you expect more polar outcomes. Some investments may go to zero but hopefully, others will be >5x and make up for them.

In true growth equity, you really can't lose your money.
Bad outcomes are where you make your 1-1.5x over a typical 5 year investment period, and horrible outcomes are when you have impaired capital, but NOT a zero.
Growth Equity is broad, but certainly for firms like Great Hill, which has been crushing it, zeros are HORRIBLE x10
