How do Headhunters find FT recruits?

Did an SA at a small MM that was in a niche coverage group that doesn't get many PE looks. FT recruited to an EB that gets good looks for MF/UMM PE so was wondering how HH's would find me for intro calls?

I've seen some people put incoming analyst on their linkedin but I think that's pretty cringe and ideally won't do it unless that's the only way.

Headhunters typically find full-time recruits through a combination of methods. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s how they operate:

  1. Spreadsheets from Departing Analysts: Top headhunters often receive spreadsheets with contact information from departing analysts at major firms. If you're at an elite boutique (EB) that gets good looks for MF/UMM PE, chances are your name will be included in these lists.

  2. LinkedIn: While you may find it "cringe" to put "Incoming Analyst" on your LinkedIn, headhunters do use LinkedIn to identify potential candidates. Even without explicitly stating your incoming role, keeping a well-updated LinkedIn profile is essential. Smaller headhunters, in particular, rely on LinkedIn to reach out.

  3. Cold Calls and Class Lists: If you're at a bulge bracket or EB, good headhunters often get their hands on class lists and cold call everyone. This is a common practice for identifying candidates.

  4. Networking and Referrals: Having a strong network or being referred by someone who knows a good headhunter can also help you get noticed. If you have connections in the industry, leverage them.

  5. Proactive Outreach: While top headhunters will likely find you if you're in a good group, you can also reach out to them directly if you feel you're being overlooked. This is especially useful if you're transitioning from a smaller MM to an EB.

In summary, if you're at an EB with strong PE placement, headhunters will likely find you through their usual channels. However, maintaining a professional and updated LinkedIn profile and leveraging your network can further increase your visibility without resorting to tactics you find uncomfortable.
