How much are people actually making in PE? (All-in comp)

Hey guys — trying to get some real-world data points here beyond the usual comp megathreads and recycled copy-paste ranges.

I’m curious how much people are actually taking home in PE, all-in, by fund size / role / region, not just what “should” be paid on paper. Especially interested in how much variance there really is once you factor in bonuses and carry (or lack thereof).

  • Fund size / strategy: (LMM / MM / UMM / MF; Buyout / Growth / etc.)
  • Role / YoE: (Associate, Sr. Associate, VP, Principal, Partner)
  • Base:
  • Bonus (cash):
  • Carry: (Yes/No, vested %, realistic value if any)
  • All-in (last year):
  • Hours / lifestyle:

Ignore title, but am an associate. This sounds horrible. You are basically getting NYC Tech MM 1st year associate salaries in NYC for longer hours. We are working somewhere an average of ~65-70, but it's one of the larger platforms in the MM, so that could be the difference.

I would've thought the tech funds of larger platforms at least compensated similarily or to a slight discount to their larger funds, suppose not.

  • Fund size / strategy: UMM, $10B+ AUM
  • Role / YoE: Associate (2Y IB, 1Y PE)
  • Base: ~$150k
  • Bonus (cash): ~$150k
  • Carry: None
  • All-in (last year): ~$300k
  • Hours / lifestyle: ~55-65 hours normally, ~70-90 on deal sprints (1-2x a year)
