Lateral Banks with a PE Offer?
I need a sanity check. I am honestly at a super mid bank in a super mid group. I got a dream offer at a MF during on cycle somehow. The role is for traditional buyout and I am in a very niche industry group that is not directly applicable to the work I’ll be doing.
Is it better to just stick it out for 2 years and go to my PE gig or is it worth exploring a lateral to a group more closely aligned with my future work?
Appreciate the insight here.
bump - similar situation. wondering if doing one year each at two banks would be a red flag for post PE recruiting
Congrats, nice problem to have. I’d suggest discussing it with the firm that hired you and see what they’d prefer. Suspect they’d support a relevant lateral move that will boost your skills/experience.
Just stay at your bank and do a good job... Most of what you're doing in PE isn't going to be things that you learn in banking anyway.
Just curious, can you negotiate with PE shop to join them early with lower pay, urgently wanna leave banking
