MBB or IR PE

Hello everyone,

I just finished my undergraduate. I have a management consulting offer as an analyst for an MBB and another Investor Relations Analyst offer in a Private Equity fund. My goal is to work in Private Equity in investments. I like both offers and am unsure which decision to make. I have read a lot in this forum and I would like to know the opinion of those who have more experience.

I plan to do a longer post on this at some point but I'll highlight a shorter version here, lmk if any additional questions-IR as a career: Honestly for me it's pretty damn great. The reason I think it doesn't get highlighted very often is bc IR means so many different things depending on the industry / company and there seems to be very few junior positions as teams run lean.I can only speak from a Relationship Management perspective (in my eyes this is one of the better placements in the IR world). In short - great exposure with almost no face time. High independence and as it's a relationship job everyone tends to be very very nice and sociable (it's literally their job). Great hours and decent pay. One thing to note is this is not a technical position. You don't step into this and move into investments. But you learn a lot about the funds and have high interaction with senior investment professionals very regularly.

EDIT: For reference I am at a large fund. I’d imagine size plays a big part in IR build out. There is a WSO Podcast on fundraising (one of the earliest ones) that is an amazing reference point you should check out.
