Not 100% sure but would think some of the stronger shops:
- OnCap (MM arm of Onex)
- Altas
- TorQuest
- Birch Hill
- Clairvest
- Novacap
Those are MM direct and diversified
Would you include Imperial in that group? They seem to have comparable fund sizes
Novacap is top tier in experience (especially the tech group after their nuvei exit) but bad in terms of pay and culture - hard for them to pay more though since they have very large classes and aum / head is lower than other shops iirc
Anyone have info on what first year associates at Oncap/Clairvest make?
Curious as to what you don’t like about the pensions - also a Canadian student thinking about exits
no carry lol
Assuming Onex/ Brookfield are the strongest names in Canada based on your post. What kind of pay can you expect at these places for PE, Infra, Credit, RE, etc. for an Associate?
Not as much transparency in these firms as the pensions, but you could expect to clear around 200k in your first year there (with obviously some variation on a firm by firm basis), at least in PE. By like Principal level, I've heard numbers of 400k-500k.
This could be entirely wrong though lol. My sample size is limited.
