Generally correct, although competition is so high usually you need at least one 6m off cycle in PE or a top IBD. Interviews can be very technical (i.e. 2 hour LBO) with 1.5 hours of technical questions. Some focus more on questions relating to investment thesis and key items to DD. Generally the competition is incredibly tough and people have stellar backgrounds
