Based on the most helpful WSO content:

  • GTCR: This firm is considered one of the top UMM (Upper Middle Market) private equity players. It recently raised a $7.5B flagship fund and a $2B growth fund, which highlights its strong fundraising capabilities and market position. Historically, GTCR has been highly regarded, but there have been mentions of high attrition at the senior level, which could indicate some internal challenges. Despite this, its reputation and credibility remain strong, making it a solid choice for exits and prestige.

  • Audax: Known for its focus on MM (Middle Market) assets, Audax has a reputation for being a rigorous and demanding place to work. Analysts often report being "crushed" by the workload but also acknowledge the significant learning opportunities. While it may not have the same prestige as GTCR, it provides strong technical training and can lead to good exits, especially for those looking to stay within the middle market.

  • Roark: While not explicitly mentioned in the provided WSO threads, Roark is generally known for its focus on consumer and franchise businesses. It has a strong niche reputation, but its prestige and exit opportunities might not be as broad or well-known as GTCR or Audax, especially for those targeting more generalist PE roles or larger funds.

For undergraduates, GTCR likely offers the best combination of prestige and exit opportunities, followed by Audax for its intense training and solid middle-market positioning. Roark could be a good fit if you're particularly interested in its niche focus areas.

Three very different firms.

What industry do you actually like? What do you want to be doing 5 years from now? How much do you value culture?

These are pretty solid firms, especially for the analyst seats, so if you got one of these you are probably a fiend and gonna be more than ok.

Like maybe in terms of prestige, exits to NY. Pretty much open to any industry tbh. Everything excites me. Consumer is definitely really cool, worry a little about if it grows enough to generate the returns though.

Which ever one gives you the offer is the best. They choose you you dont choose them. Highly unlikely for someone to ask these types of questions would be the caliber to be able to choose between the three (or even one lmao).
