Starting late... Any US IB/PE 2026 summer internships that open after April?

Hey everyone – kind of panicking a bit here. I’m just now starting to look into Summer 2026 IB/PE internship recruiting in the US, and it seems like I’m super behind…

I’ve done 3 PE internships so far:
- One at a Top 10 AUM PE fund in APAC
- One at a $8Bn+ AUM PE fund (also APAC)
- One at a very small local PE shop in US

Despite the experience, I’m finding it tough to even get past resume screens for US positions – probably because I’m starting so late 😞

At this point, I’m wondering:

  1. Are there any PE or IB summer 2026 internships in the US that open after April? Doesn’t matter the bank size or location – just anywhere in the US.
  2. Where do people usually find these late-opening roles? Is it just a grind through individual websites, or are there aggregators/trackers people use?

Would really appreciate any advice – especially from anyone who also started late but still made it work. Thanks so much 🙏

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to know:

  1. Late-Opening Summer 2026 Internships:

    • Smaller boutique investment banks and private equity shops are your best bet for late-opening roles. These firms often have less structured recruiting timelines compared to BBs (Bulge Brackets) or EBs (Elite Boutiques).
    • Many boutique IBs and small PE firms recruit on an as-needed basis, meaning they may still have openings well into the spring or even early summer.
  2. Where to Look:

    • Networking: This is critical. Reach out to alumni, professionals in your network, or even cold-email senior members at smaller firms. Highlight your prior PE experience and your eagerness to contribute.
    • Job Boards and Aggregators: While there isn’t a perfect aggregator for late-opening roles, platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and even WSO job boards can be helpful. Keep an eye on postings and set up alerts for relevant keywords.
    • Individual Websites: Many smaller firms don’t advertise widely. Check their websites directly for career pages or contact information.
  3. Action Plan:

    • Target Boutique Firms: Focus on firms with fewer than 30 employees or those in your region. These are more likely to have flexible timelines.
    • Leverage Your Experience: Your prior PE internships are a strong asset. Tailor your resume to emphasize deal experience, analytical skills, and any US market exposure.
    • Be Persistent: Follow up with firms you’ve contacted. Persistence often pays off, especially with smaller firms that may not have formal HR processes.
  4. Additional Tips:

    • Off-Cycle Internships: Consider off-cycle internships as a backup. These can sometimes lead to full-time offers or provide valuable experience for future recruiting.
    • Networking Events: Attend any finance-related networking events or conferences. These can be great opportunities to meet professionals at smaller firms.

Starting late is tough, but with your strong background, you still have a solid chance if you focus on smaller firms and network aggressively. Good luck!
